Quiet stainless exhaust that won't rust out in a year.....

When I did my top swap in Spring 2016 I installed all new exhaust from headers back. I went with Walker OEM from the cat to tailpipe. It was quiet and I liked it. No drone. It lasted all of 17,000 miles and a year and a half. It is completely rusted out and the muffler shell fell off today. Back to square one.

Looking for a catback that is quiet, no drone, and won't rust out in a year. Think stock quiet here. This is my DD not a race car. I think Borla is discontinued as I can't find any. I heard complaints that ZZP and Magnaflow are loud and obnoxious. Dynomax (owned by Walker) looks to be cheap steel and rust out in a year. The OEM Walker rusted out and is crap.

Any suggestions?

I contacted Borla to see what they say. I also sent an email to ZZP asking them if I can swap out the mufflers for something quieter. It looks like their system is the three chamber Magnaflows. Could possibly switch out for the Magnaflow or Borla packed mufflers.

Ive got zzp’s on my impala and I like it. It’s got some surface rust at the weld spots but nothing is rotting through. Been on 2 years now. Had borla on my gp and loved it but only got it because I got a good deal on a used one.

i got a cheap ebay cat back, its at least 2 years old and still quiet, the walker muffler i had before hand didnt last 2 years for me. pos.

I looked through some old pages a while back. Borla ProXS 40358 should be the correct size for GP

Could have a shop make whatever muffler/resonator setup you bring in or order through them. I'm lucky and a local guy does "custom" so I can pick out my own stuff.

I ordered the ZZP 2.5" system without mufflers. From my understanding the ZZP system comes with what looks like Magnaflow 3 chamber mufflers. I prefer packed vs chambered mufflers sound. Especially on our V6. I will probably install Borla mufflers once the kit comes in and I can do some measuring to see what fits.

So I went with the 2.5 ZZP Cat back without mufflers. Then had the muffler shop weld in Borla ProXS mufflers. I have mixed feelings. It sounds good. Nice deep mellow tone. But it is still too loud for me. If it wasn't my daily driver kid hauler I would love it. Not peaky, high rpm, raspy, or annoying. But it is still too loud for me. I tried to fit another resonator but there was no room. I am going to insulate the trunk and see if it cuts it down. If doesn't then I may go with Solo Performance Mufflers. I will give it a month. If after a month I am not happy then I will sell the Borla mufflers and try the Solo Performance mufflers. On a side note it is a very nice sound. Its deep, mellow, no rasp. If it was a race car not my family hauler I would be happy with it.

I'm the same. I love my Borla's, but as I get older, I find them louder and louder. Stock mufflers seem like a nice option. LOL

Oh, and get those tips straightened. That crap bugs me. LOL

So I went and sound insulated my trunk. Vast difference! I had a peak resonance around 500hz and it dropped 6 db. Huge difference. I still hate the sound. To me it sounds like an old crappy car with an exhaust leak not a V8 performance car. LOL. Our cars just don't sound good. But I can live with it. I put panels of dampening on the large metal surfaces to stop their vibrating. Then used a roll of Mass Loaded Vinyl to block the sound. Then finished up with a layer of jute padding to absorb sound. All under the trunk carpeting floor, sides, and underside of trunk lid. It made a substantial difference. Stop the vibrations, block the sound, absorb what gets through.

In my opinion the perfect setup would be the ZZP 2.5 without mufflers and use Solo Performance mufflers. I am not too interested in cutting off my brand new Borla mufflers to spend another 500 bucks to swap mufflers so I will live with what I have. But if I did a do over I would have went with the Solo Performance mufflers for less noise but still 100% stainless and good flow.
