• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

CV axle wont go All the way in Hub assembly on 99 Grandprix gtp :confused:

Ok, I'm having the worst 3 days off working on grandprixs ever, first off ive been through 4 wheel bearings on this car ignoring the problem at hand because no one could figure it out. so now ive joined this site to see if any grandprix lovers know.

I have a 99 GTP wheel hub keeps going out because the dam CV axle wont go all the way through the wheel bearing, it only sits in half way so its riding half way on the wheel bearing causing it to wear quickly. now ive made sure these parts were correct. stayed at autozone for a hour just to try different year bearings and axles to see if one fits but all I'm getting is the same issue. it seems like the bearing is too thick or the end of the axle isn't long enough like it might need another inch or so. by the way its the passenger side that's doing this I haven't looked at the driver side because I never have problems or nosiness from that side. I will post a picture of it if u need to see one but please let me know if you've had this same problem or your able to help Ive been driving my z28 around and it has full bolt ons so gas prices is getting on my nerves and its not a daily!

Also I was thinking are there similar transmissions for fwd gm cars that might take a different lenth cv axle? I only ask because I know my wheel hub is brand new and the cv axle is brand new and both I got for a 99 grand prix from auto zone. Part numbers match up. like I said its just the tip of the cv axle that goes into the wheel bearing seems like it was made an inch too short, the back off the wheel hub is flush with the cv axle but when looking at the wheel hub from the wheel studs you can see that the splines only feel up half of the wheel bearing.

Help A.S.A.P:confused::confused::confused:

First make autozone refund your money for their crappy axles. Then go to Napa or Others have had luck with Orielly’s and get the axle. Make sure you are getting one for the Supercharged option. If at some point a transmission from a non supercharged was swapped in then you would need an axle from that if it is the right front (passenger side)

I second this. I had the same issue, went through four bands of axles before I went with napa remanufactured axles. Just make sure that you get the supercharged axle for the passenger side!

yup its the right front passenger side, so the non sc grandprixs axles are shorter on the tip of the axle?

Actually the non - supercharged axles are longer because of a shorter differential. The main problem is the crappy imported Chinese axles they claim fit our cars and don't!

Yes the passenger side on a supercharged is shorter. That’s why I was saying if by some chance there is a non supercharged transmission put in at some time and you are trying to fit a supercharged axle in that it would be short. Unlikely this is the case though.

I dealt with the same crap from autozone. On my 04 Comp G. I ended up finding a lower mileage stock axle from Morads and putting it in the right side and bought a brand new OE axle for the left.

also I did have my tranny rebuilt about 2 years ago it was just a basic rebuild, I see what you guys are saying I'm going to take the parts I have and just stop by napa and compare them with what they have. hopefully I get this right today this is very stupid and frustrating going back and forth to the zone.. if I wasn't trying to buy a d-max I would just replace the whole dam tranny and axles on both sides.

Yup. I hear you on that one. I just rebuilt my transmission completely and replaced almost everything. It was.... a learning experience. haha Good luck!

and trying not to sound like a plug, but I have a brand new TRQ front hub assembly for $20 if you need one! :)
