Bandook's 01 Imp, top swap-ified



Just got back from a 2 hr trip. Crossover is good. It was neat seeing my idle a/f at 14.5 after I started it this morning. Leak fixed and computer hadn't yet adjusted. After I got home it was back to 14.7. Now I can get a better tune.

I was seeing more KR than I did before I put this cheap ass fuel pump in. The pump is temporary until I figure out the best setup. Considering everything from AN fuel line from rail directly to pump... to fuel cell in trunk. Whatever I do it MUST fix my issues. Its getting old pulling this pump out every other week.

Sender is still good. Still think there is a small leak. Either at the rear of crossover or vband. Think I'm scared to touch it though lol. Like picking a scab, seems like a good idea till blood flows and infection sets in.

I don't have an in car gauge. I could try your trick but it's gonna get replaced anyways. My guess is a 35 dollar pump is just not gonna meet the flow demands of e85 and the rest of my.mods. I won't take it WOT to redline so I'll just play with the idle/cruise tune till I get a better pump.
 
Oh I was thinking you switched back to gas again, I must have missed the switch back to E85. Yeah using the oil sender and gauge works great but I was always scared of a fuel leak, but for testing I couldn't come up with an easier/ cheaper way to do it. I wouldn't have been so scared if I could just find a fitting to go straight to the rail instead of using the crimped hose. If someone knows how here to get just that fitting all you would need is to adapt to a 1/8" NPT female pipe thread. It would be interesting to see what kind of FP you're running. Oh and the work on your heads: Mag-nif-eek (hand in the air with all fingers touching, Italian style).

Thanks Jeff! Yeah, the heads were definitely the highlight of the build for me. Learned a lot doing them. Only regret is not putting in some bigger ss valves while I was at it. Wouldn't have taken much more since I had my valves done twice, sheesh.
 
Let some dirt get in there, it'll do the rest lol. Copper does wonders. I bet I don't get my fuel pump looked at this weekend. Gettin a few new scabs doing dash instead.
 


I wanted to pick up an extra set of heads and was thinking about bigger valves, but I recall at least on the Ford 3.8 that valve shrouding was an issue with larger valves and going much bigger didn't result in that much more power. A lot of the guys ran undercut valves but didn't really pick up a lot in the way of CFM but better than a shrouded valve at the lifts they were running. Steigmier did a lot of flow testing on them and his heads were on a lot of the top SC's. I did my aluminum heads on my SC and just messing with the short side improved the flow by 20cfm across the board. This time around though I think I will port the heads first then take them to the machine shop to have them decked and a 3 or 5 angle performed on them. Last time they lost all my valves, retainers, springs... Well everything. I was so pissed.

I wonder if anyone has flow numbers for stock heads?

Been a long while since I've posted. Has two years really gone by? Feels like I just did the swap yesterday. Car is still running great. :)

Wish I could say I've since broke land speed records, but I haven't modded any further. A couple oil changes and a few fuel pumps, lol. Finally bought an E85 safe pump and all has been well. Kept killing stock pumps. Still hope to install cam/rockers one day. I've promised myself that I'd get a 1/4 mile time this year, really curious where I sit.

Been awhile, but she still lives. I'm having some startup issues, hoping for some direction. Unfortunately I lost my tuner. Searched high and low but I think it got tossed in the trash by a certain in-law wanting to help clean put my garage when I wasn't home...

So when cold it starts and idles fine. But when I start it up again when it's still warm it needs some coaxing with the gas for about 30 seconds. I have a feeling it's in the tune. I remember seeing something in the tables about that. But if I remember it didn't have this issue after I got it tuned right. I only get to drive the car a couple times a month, so it's hard to remember just when this issue cropped up.

My thoughts. Possibly maf? If I unplug maf when warm, it will start and run fine for maybe 5 seconds then die. CPS? I've heard this being an issue. Plugs look fine. No obvious vacuum leaks. IAC? Dunno. Hoping someone seen this before.

Otherwise the car still runs great for the most part. Rust is kicking my ass. Just replaced a brake line and leaking rack pressure hose. Gonna keep her alive as long as I can.

Hope y'all are doing well. Miss all the good times I had here with you guys. Still considering some upgrades. But really bummed that I lost my tuner, so that makes any further mod that much more expensive.
 
I had a warm hard start issue on my '00 GTP. Cleaned the TB and IAC (they were CAKED with carbon) and it was fine after that.

This was on a stock tune though... How's your TB look?
