2006 Grand Prix fuel pump replacement

Motor is throwing code that it's running lean. I havnt checked pressure but GM said it's most likely fuel pump. How hard is it to change? It doesn't have the access door like the previous models/years had which sucks. Any tips would be helpful as look forward to my endeavor!

Check fuel pressure before you buy the pump.

Lean condition can be way more than just a failing fuel pump. You could have a vacuum leak, faulty MAF sensor, bad o2 sensors, faulty EGR valve or broken tube from the EGR to the manifold.

You would have to drop the fuel tank or cut a whole where the access panel would have been to get at the pump.

I checked for vacuum leaks. I am aware of MAF sensor and EGR but my fuel level sensor also went out. It's throwing a high cirxuit fault which goes with my fuel gauge not working I'm assuming. Any tips on how to check these things without buying them new and replacing? When I go to start it, it takes it about 4 seconds to start. Today when I gave it gas it would pulse forward real hard then it would lose power(repeating for like 30 seconds). It still starts hard everytime.

I am safe to assume the check engine light is on? If so can you scan it and post the codes here. The codes can often further help diagnose issues.

The hard starting could be something as simple as the filthy dirty throttle body that all 04+ grand Prix seem to get. If you do need to do the fuel pump grab the pump access panel from a 2004 GP from the scrap yard then cut a hole to retrofit it to your 06

I will post soon. I'm going to hook it up to a different diagnostic scanner. I'll upload results

I'll tell ya right now that doesn't work. I can take pictures of my car to prove it lol.

05+ fuel pump isn't in the same place as the 04 so the 04 access panel doesn't line up. Also the 05+ pump is different than the 04 and won't fit through the 04 access hole.

You have to drop the tank or cut a hole.

Well that was a dumb move on GM's part.
