I have a 98 gtp with a 2001 motor I wanted to start modding it but not to the exterme. I have a thrasher cold air intake and ngk plugs my next cheap mod was going to be a t stat 180 or 160. I dont wont to blow anything up or messed the car up I wont to be on the safe side. Some one said a colder t stat would hurt my car i dont think so because i used to run a 160 in my lt1 all the time and the car ran 100% better with a lower temp. My future mods are a 3.4 pulley and a 3 inch down pipe will these mods hurt my car and do I have to get it tuned

A lower * thermostat is not going to make any difference in power or how you're engine runs.

If you're going to go with one go with the 160. You will not see much of a difference with the 180 in the city.

Plus you need to change the fan temp settings in the PCM to take full advantage of the Thermostat.

i thought if you run a 160 without adjusting the car it will idle higher trying to get the temp of the car up?

Do you have a tuner? If not, go with a 180.

You are gonna trip the SES light eventually with a 160, guaranteed.

Nope. It won't affect idle at all. Here is the table to prove it.

Okay, you see this:

post your shortcut ideas, things that make a job easier.

Thats what the section description is for Tech Tips. Its the area where you post up things you have discovered that will make a job easier to do or you solved a difficult problem.

Come on people, its NOT that hard to read the friggin section descriptions!!!

you should run a 180. there is no reason to run a 160. your mileage will suck and your heat will suck. if you need a 160 to keep cool then something else is wrong.
