What's up with ZZP stuff; Buy or don't buy? (Opinion)

SaukRapids

I can't car too good.
Recently joined a couple FB groups. I see quite a few owners and recommendations on the ZZP items in general. Personally, I think it's overpriced for what it is most of the time.

Example of this is one asked about a top swap. The first response was to buy ZZP's top swap kit for the low-low price of $1,750. A google search of "craigslist top swap kit 3800" rendered an ad for a MN guy selling almost complete kits for $400 (minus gaskets, iirc.) Other's get bent out of shape when you tell them ZZP's ridiculous intake does about as much as a cone.

Looking for opinions from Old-timers to "just bought my first GP."

Can't stop thinking about it, and want to put this dog to rest.

Link to those kits for verification, btw (local guy. I might as well try and throw him a bone) - https://stcloud.craigslist.org/pts/6113277872.html

I'm glad that a place like ZZP is around, but I definitely approach them with some suspicion. I consider them a specialty supplier, it's not exactly an AutoZone. Since they are a specialty supplier, they charge more.... no big deal. Just gotta shop around. But again, I'm glad that they exist catering to our platform.

I've bought most of my stuff from ZZP. Some of the stuff is overly priced so I just compare. I like their innovations. I'm on my 4th Grand prix and I have used ZZP for my 2-04s and now my 07. A lot of people have bad things to say but I have had nothing but good dealings with them thus far. I had issues with their wires and ignition (they sucked) they let me return them for store credit with no issues.

I buy stuff from them sometimes. I recently purchased a methanol injection kit from them because the place I as going to buy from raised the price by 100 dollars.

I've had good luck with them for the most part, but have heard some horror stories. I've also gotten stupid answers to questions that I've asked.

I've bought a few things from zzp, and even though some of it is pricey, it's been good materials. For example, for the fbody brake kit, I know I could just go to a parts store and get some camaro calipers and do it up myself for a lot cheaper, but they handle the bracket threading that I could possibly screw up to make them fit.

And every store has an assortment of crap with a crazy markup that's only there cause they know a few uninformed or loose-spending people will grab it up and pad the stores bottom line, whether it's auto parts, groceries, or clothing.

They cater to a niche and can demand the price the community is willing to pay. They're not perfect, but over the years I've had no major complaints.

80% of their crap is just that.....crap. Of the remaining 20% some of their products are lifesavers. Trick is buyer beware and ignore their magic claims

some of their stuff are overpriced. I've seen and had experienced myself they do have issues with shipping incorrect parts from time to time. there was one incidence where I ordered a part (cant recall what exactly it was) and I stupidly didn't open and check it when I got it and fast forward a few months later when I was about to work on the said part it was incorrect and I couldn't get a refund/exchange.

Depends on what you're buying. General maintenance stuff is probably better from rock auto or a local parts store. If you want to go fast, they are cheap compared to other platforms.

Thanks everyone. Really, I wanted to see what was said before I went off bashing every product they had based off the price for that GenIII Kit.

I avoided them back in the day (early 2000's) because there were so many other specialty sites, and I couldn't make heads or tails of their claims.

Looks like it's kind of a win/lose situation then. Right there they are, but buyer beware. I've always been fascinated by the shininess of all their parts. One thing about it, their stuff gleams.

it is ridiculous that they would sell a top swap kit for almost 2k, especially considering you can pay like 600 more and have 300 hp at the wheels with a turbo kit.

I just picked up a 2004 GP GT1 that needed a water pump. I was going to purchase the ZZP $20 water pump (because it had good reviews), but I did not want to wait for it to be shipped. I order a new life time water pimp from Advanced auto (CARQUEST T2269), for $35.49 - 30% coupon $10.65 = $24.84 add tax $1.50 = $26.33

Anyway it looks as though the ZZP water pump has the same part number as the CARQUEST water pump!

I've bought all of the stuff I've had to replace from zzp on my 07 Grand Prix and they are quite expensive but for a brand new part made by Pontiac specialist I always thought it was worth it. Plus idk about everyone else but In arkansas they don't charge taxes and I get my stuff in a few days every time.
