need to start a drive a parts car with no key

Haven't posted in a while guys. I bought a top swap for my 04 gt a while back then it went on the back burner for a while. Changed my game plan to turbo then ultimately decided to leave it alone due to poor boy status. Then I was presented with the opportunity to buy a 05 gtp loaded and in all mechanical soundness for $400. Only catch is theres no title and no key.

I have to get it running to test all of the equipment and electronics I'm about to swap out of it and because pushing it around on my property with the steering wheel locked is impossible. So I'm stuck with a car that's been junked out of the system (siezed by tow yard for fees) so I have no way to prove ownership to a dealer to have a key cut. Sure a locksmith will do it but I'd still have to weasel the stealership into programming the chip to my car. And I'd rather not even spend money on a car and ignition switch that will ultimately get scrapped.

So now that I've explained myself maybe I can ask the next couple questions without looking like I'm trying to steal a car lol.

1. I found a YouTube video where a guy shows a 30 minute learning process with 3 10 minute ignition cycles to mate a new chip to his 04ish impala with no other key as a master. He claims it can be done on all gms with that style key. It looked pretty legit in the video. Anyone ever done this?

2. As for cutting the key... I'd rather break the ignition and use a flat head than waste money on a key. The drill method doesn't look real easy since it's flush mounted on the dash so would a slide hammer with a screw in attachment do the trick?

3. Assuming I can now turn the ignition switch with a flat head and I can successfully program the chip in a blank key would taping the key over the little hole for the chip reader suffice?
 


.... or you can reflash the PCM with Pass Key deleted and unbolt the ignition switch lock cylinder from the dash with three screws after popping the trim panel off remove the switch off the back of the lock and tumblers and you can turn it with your finger if I recall....boom you're done
 
You can get the lock cylinder off of the switch without the key, but without the pass key chip the computer will disable the fuel pump. Sorry to say but without a title you don't own the car. The tow company should have filed paperwork for their lien with the county clerk that would have gotten the title transferred to them so that they could legally sell the car to you.

Red neck it together with toggle switches? Had a 99 Century that the chip reader had gone bad, and while it wouldn't start on its own, a flip to ON still allowed fuel/spark to occur. Flip the toggle for Starter and off you go.

I thought about toggles but I didn't want to get that complex. Figured there would be a lot of crap to rewire or become conplicated and I want to make sure I have full function with no security issues to test all the equipment in the car and run a scan tool to check kr... I'm going to try to learn a chip myself. Just got to get me a blank pk3 key. No dealer in the town I work in...

I'll definitely let you guys know if it works. If it doesn't I found another alternative. There's a piggy back pass key bypass modual on amazon for like $35.
 
Here's another process that may work: LINK

You will have to get the lock cylinder off of the ignition switch so you can turn the switch without the key. At this point I wouldn't even worry about the key since you don't have one to copy and no dealer will cut a key from the VIN without the title. Sounds like it's going to the crusher anyways after you get the mechanicals out.
 


Most JY wont take car without proof of ownership, simply go to local DMV and ask about paperwork to file for mechanics lein, technically you dont have to be a business, you could claim for several reasons I believe, you were cleaning car, swapping stereo parts, storing car. Most times it takes couple of certified leatters one to you then leave un opened, one to original owner. Set fees, bill price so high owner wont retrieve ir as they wouldnt retrieve it from tow yard so Id say your ok, then file papers. Takes time and bit of cash. Google mechanics lien or abandoned car titling. shouldnt be that hard. One thing is you may have to have state police come run it to prove its not stolen.
One other possibility is dissasembly key cylinder and remove all the guts that key needs to ride in then simple new uncut key from dealer would suffice with 10 or 30 minute relearn. If you have the car and paid for it from tow company and recieved a reciept that should prove at least partially you own it. Good Luck
 
Seriously no reason not to have a title unless its hot, has a lein(still hot), or is hiding from repo men(yup still hot). All other situations there's still easy ways to get ownership paper even if not actual title.

Was going to say "ownership paper" instead of title is easy, but not always title. Many states in the North East stop issuing titles after 15 years old.

No title required upon transfer of ownership? Hmmmm... There's 15+yr old cars worth more than my house! You bet your ass I'm not paying unless a clear title is shown! Vin is a Federal Registry as well, and was instituted primarily for tracking "stolen" vehicles/parts, then for Safety (recalls). Bottom line is I wouldn't be in possession of a car, even if given to me for free, without a title/bill of sale!

Yeah in CT/RI it's last Reg. and Bill of Sale to Prove transfer.

In Georgia they won't issue a title for anything older than 1980 I believe. If not hot or no leins the dealer can get you a key
