Where should you run the 6-rib supercharger belt on and 8-rib pulley

LaBarge Supercharged
I was measuring an 8-rib ATI balancer and I believe the distance from the accessory belt to the first rib on supercharger is the same distance as a stock harmonic balancer.

I then measured a stock pulley versus a ZZP pulley, they are set up run a 6-rib belt in the middle of there 8-rib pulley.

So if I run a ATI balance and a ZZP pulley I need to space out the ZZP pulley 0.141" (1 rib dimension) to get the 8-rib to align.

I am positive a 6 rib belt should run in middle of zzp pulley. Why is the ati balancer set up to run a 8 rib belt with the 2 extra ribs on the outside?

i run my belt on the outside edge of the sc pulley. i have smooth flow pulleys iirc.

is there a off set we're not seeing where the stock vs mps hubs are flat on the table? might make up that 1/2 rib line up issue.

I have the stock pulley spaced up 0.170 to account for the thickness of the pulley in the picture. I am positive you need to run ZZP pulleys in the middle!

My spacer is in the second picture.

ZZP Modular hub is pushed on flush and stock pulley the same. Just need to compensate for the thickness of the pulley

zzp might be different than mine, but mine jumped to the outer rib after being put in the middle. the way it hits my tensioner looks better too when its on the outside edge.

looks straighter too.

i seen your issues with them. it looks like i have gotten a good set. when 5 pulleys and the hub show up used for 130 you just buy them lol

Haha.

I bought 8 or 10 modular systems NEW Direct form Nathan!

He never send back the 2 that had horrible runout.

I am pretty sure the ATI balancer was spec'd to be used with an Intense SC pulley, not ZZP...thus, the offset.

You are correct that ZZP is setup to run 6 rib belts in the middle with stock and PowerBond balancer setups.

I don't have Intense pulley to measure but ZZP and Intense systems are suppose to be interchange pulleys and hubs.

Yes, they interchange on the hubs fine but the Intense pulley with a 6-rib belt installed is not in the middle like ZZP.

Copied from a posting on another site...
We offer this spacer kit for use with ZZP 8-rib supercharger pulleys. It moves the belt out one rib for proper alignment with the ATI (and another brand to be coming soon) 8-rib setups.

INTENSE supercharger pulleys are manufactured with the correct rib location, so no spacer kit is required.

That's not really a good comparison.
The face of pulley to the counter bore on ZZP is 0.171. What is the Intense pulley depth.

I've heard that Intense will ship ZZP pulley some times. They are buying from zzp and must be same backspacing.

From Left to Right
Stock Steel press on
Steel press on ZZP (i think). Same back spacing
Unknown Aluminum Press on Pulley. Same back spacing
Smooth Flow Modular Pulley System. Back spacing is pretty close.

Can anyone measure an intense pulley with calipers?

Sorry, I don't have any Intense pulleys to measure...just found pics on the web like this one:

Also, check out the Intense site info on their pulleys:

In addition these pulleys are the correct offset for use with the ATI Performance Products SFI-Approved Dampers and are compatible with both six and eight rib belts.

Individual Pulleys for the INTENSE™ Modular Pulley System will also fit the ZZP modular pulley hub. We designed our pulleys to be backwards compatible with the ZZP hub so that we may continue to support our customers who have purchased a ZZP system.

6 rib belt with ZZP pulley you run in the middle!

6 rib belt with Intense pulley you run with the belt on the inside (towards the charger)

ZZP 8 pulleys are not the correct offset for ATI balances????? (1- rib off)

Intense 8 rib pulleys are correct offset for ATI balances.

What balance works with ZZP 8-rib pulleys?

any reason you cant pull or push the hub one way or the other to so it lines up like you want? whats a 1/8 inch either way gonna hurt?

No problem moving 1/8". Just funny they have been selling these for years and neither company tells you where to run 6-rib belts neither company says anything about the balancers and the pulley being different.

The major vendors have not been forthcoming forever! On other 3800 forums, there are threads from 10+ years ago on this pulley confusion.

This is all old news. ZZ peas layout was a compromise so that they could machine Olean balancers for a rib use before powerbond released their SFI legal balancer.
Intense and ATI are Factory belt spacing from the accessory with two ribs added to the outside like most systems add additional ribs. Zzp is in the minority of adding a rib on the inboard and outboard side.
