Engine Trouble - Need Help

Hey all, I'm new to this forum and I need some guidance regarding my 2007 Grand Prix GT. I purchased the car a few months ago from a family friend. There is an issue with my engine (I think). Here's what's happening...

When I'm in gear and reach right about 4000rpm, I hear a loud clicking noise, and lose all power. If I let off the gas a little, the transmission will shift and all is well. But I can't get over 4000rpm. Aside from that issue, everything seems to work well with the car. I've searched all over the place for answers for this problem I'm having, but I can't find any other cases of this issue...Don't know the first thing about SC's so thought it could possibly be related to that, but don't know.

Thanks all!

I believe I tried that, and the issue occurred. The car is in the shop right now for an unrelated issue, so I will check when I pick it up later this afternoon. But I'm pretty sure the answer to your question is no, it will not go above 4k while in 1st gear.

I'm probably wrong here, but doesn't the computer limit past 4k rpm in P or N? I can try that when I get the car back later today.

Yes, my check engine light is on, but the mechanic just told me it's no longer on, but he may have just reset it? Not sure. I will check to see if it flashes when I floor it. I will test and post the results.

So I got my car back and tested. When locked in 1st gear, I can go above 4K rpm. When in drive, there is fast and loud clicking. Note - the transmission shifts very smooth under 3500 rpm. Not sure if that helps or not. Check engine light is not on anymore.

wow, no idea wtf that is. being under the bridge made it sound pretty bad. you feel that in any way? your cel on there? looks like it, but im not up on the gp dash. if its on, get it scanned at a parts store. its free. if it turns off when you restart it, dont turn the car off, scan it running. tranny codes can some times clear themselves when restarted.

I did it under the bridge so the noise would be more distinct. No I don't feel anything, CEL is on, I'll go get it checked.

Crazy noise. No idea. I don't know how a flex plate works but it would seem like it would always make noise if related to that.
