Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Wiring... Ugh.

Once I get my project started (whatever it may be), this is what scares me the most. When I see a picture like that its like my brain goes into dumb mode.

look at you taming spaghetti like that :)

Ha! Yeah, you don't get to see the hours I spent on my garage floor untangling that mess.

I'll let you in on my secret:

Colored markers and a roll of masking tape. Documentation is key. If I wasn't relocating the pcm, it would be a LOT easier. Don't let my mess scare you. It's just a matter of connecting the sensors to the PCM. Nothing more. No magic. Just lines of plastic coated copper.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Wiring... Ugh.

We all know YOU are the "Sharpie"....lol. Carry on..

Haha! Right... I just know where to find the answers.

I decided it would be wise to prep the 8.8 for shortening while working o the wiring. I never know when I'm going to run out of work (at my actual pay the bills job), and this way it'll be ready to go when I do. Boss says cut out early, I can load this thing up and drop it off. Currently just draining the fluid. My garage stinks... Gonna need a couple cans of oven cleaner for this pig:

I wouldn't rule it out. I'd like to get the S-10 before I do another trans though.

Yup. Sometimes things just work out that way. Not gonna lie... I do like seeing my name in every post you make! :th_biggrin1:

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Wiring... Ugh.

Lol nothing is wrong with my transmission yet..........yet

And i dunno, just something about paying a fella to do it in his garage and putting money in his pocket for his family rather than a big company pocket brings me joy. lmao

Money talks to brandon, he likes to listen to it talk to him too.

Aaaand.... Sometimes I let it talk FOR me. You'd be surprised how much people will drop their asking price on something if you flash crisp new $100 bills.

On the truck; Finished the trans cooler lines. Had to put the hose ends on and attach them to the radiator. Also poked away at the wiring a little more. Gutted the rear end and pulled the axles.

Housing is pretty gross. It's been awhile since I had the cover off a rear end, but I don't remember it being this bad. I'm assuming some of the sludge is clutch material from the LSD? Either way, I'm going to try to get it as clean as possible. Look at that tiny pinion gear!!

Bagged and tagged all the pieces to keep them straight. I did mic the shims and take a note of which one went where, just incase.

And the center section...

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Wiring... Ugh.

that needs a good old fashioned cleaning out. i bet thats the first time the gear oil was ever dumped out of it.

That's what I would have assumed as well, but the cover was sealed with RTV. Not like factory applied RTV... Like my son boogered it on. Piles of it hanging off the side and crusted onto the end of the cover bolts. So I have to believe some backyard mechanic was in there at some point. (I sure hope it wasn't a "professional" or the factory) Must have been a LONG time ago OR maybe the proper oil wasn't used? Spec tag calls for 75w-140. Most of them come with the friction modifier already in, but maybe this stuff didn't. I dunno. It'll be squeaky clean and have new oil and seals when I'm done.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Wiring... Ugh.

im willing to bet it will also be as good as new when your done with it.

what gears you going with?

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Wiring... Ugh.

my 03 had 4:10's, the stock tires spun kinda easy, once the 33's went on there there was no more wheel spin off the line, it just took off.

i dragged a skid steer 20 feet in a gravel lot one time with it, in 4 low of course, it was like a dog tied to a post, drift left then right dragging this 5,000 lb dead weight of a skid steer, its wheels were locked up too, we had lost the keys and it needed to be moved. the crap i do to get a days work in i tell ya.

I think the only thing that's going to stop this from being a real stump puller is the lack of weight in the back.

Got everything I need for the rear end on hand now. Two axle seals and a pinion seal. Also, some heavy duty degreaser!

Scored a Moser Diff cover off CList for $50. Didn't really NEED it, but the price was right an I like the drain holes.

Should look real nice under the truck.

Oh... and wiring...

IMAG0991_zpsnth23xqg.jpg

That's about 2/3 of the LQ4 harness. Still need to cut everything to length and add the original 4.3 harness.
