That OSPHO label looks like the guy is applying it bare handed, but I see some warning diamonds at the bottom of the label. Is that stuff nasty to breathe/handle?

Not really. I mean, it is phosphoric acid so I don't drink it or put it on my salad. The label warns against "prolonged" exposure so I wear gloves, but it has splashed up on my wrist and forearm with no ill effects. There is a small but distinct odor. It's been fifteen years since I last used it, but as soon as I took one whiff I was right back in my parents shed working on the rusted out K5.

Amazing how smells can take you back, huh? I still have my dad's toolbox(he passed away in 1981) in my garage, and every time I open it (which is probably only once a year if that) I'm taken back to when I was wrenching on my bicycle and asked him "how come you don't have a 4/8ths wrench, because this 5/8ths is too big?" I was so young that we hadn't been taught fractions in school yet! I guess I thought the 16ths were too daunting, so I didn't bother with them...

Well here's the results of my "good enough" engine bay refurb. I think it looks okay. You won't see 95% of it once the engine is in. It's mostly just so I have a clean environment to work in.

I separated the engine trans, and wrestled the anchor into the back of the truck for the time being.

Probably pressure wash the trans this weekend and put it on Craigslist. As suspected, it has been rebuilt. It has an aftermarket torque converter and "ATLAS 10-28-2008" (or something like that) written in paint marker inside the bellhousing. Atlas is a local trans rebuilder.

Not sure if this is the permanent home of the tank, but I never made it to Harbor Freight to get that welding cart so I just did this for now.

Killing time waiting for parts. Decided to clean up the drive shaft. Wire wheel works wonders

Then hit it with a coat of Ospho to seal it.

I just called Atlas transmission. They were able to pull a history on the 60e that came out of the S10 based on the VIN. After doing some quick math, that trans only has 23,473 miles since being rebuilt. That low amount of miles, and being able to document it should up the value a little. Having it all cleaned off won't hurt either.

UPS came way late yesterday and dropped off my BRP hotrods S10 LS swap kit. Like Christmas morning I peeled that thing open.

Kinda spendy, but when I read "Unlike others, our kit positions the engine so there is no steering interference and maintains the proper drive-line angle for smooth highway cruising. It provides clearance for the factory AC box, power brake booster, and aftermarket suspension components." I was sold!

I like the idea of having an actual kit that is engineered to work as a whole. I didn't expect to get grade 8 hardware. That was just a nice bonus!

With the 12 point socket, I was able to put in the flex to crank bolts I ordered by mistake.

thats awesome!! looks like you got room to spare around it too. no where near as tight as i thought it would be. how tight is it to the ac on the firewall?

Plenty of room. I could fit at least three sheets of paper in there. Lol! No, seriously though, it was touching until I nipped the corner off the edge of the head. All the corners on those are so crisp, just a little work with the grinder gave me about 1/8" between the head and the box. Had to take the right rear stud out of the coil bracket. That hit also.

Made a little clearance for the steering shaft. Probably have to put a little ding in #5 as well

After a whole lot of trial and error, it finally cleared.

I ended up shortening and thinning the idler arm. Also relocated the upper bolt.

I took a little more than necessary to make the compressor clear, but after going in and out over twenty times I just wanted it to drop in. I was running out of daylight. I'll build it all back up and make it look decent, I promise. I'm also going to try to box that section a little to support that idler. That's tomorrow's problem.

nice work, have welder and it will fit, one way or another. :D

oh, and dented headers dont hurt HP at all, they can add some lol theres a vid on line, hammer blows to sledge blows to all the pipes. nothing hurt the hp

I have only 1 question... why the smaller pulley for the PS pump? lol
