Instrument cluster acting funny

This morning on my way to work the fuel guage, tach, t/c, temp and odometer stopped working. When I put it in park the doors didn't unlock. Here's a pic of the dash.

I shut the car down and fired it back up and all is ok for now. I'll see what happens on my way home. Any ideas or do you think it was a one time occurance?

How long have you had the stereo?
Some people have issues after installing an aftermarket stereo..

I put the radio in a couple weeks ago. The only things that don't work since doing that is the door chime and date on the DIC. Those are both known issues I'm ok with not having.

What module did you use. It's pretty common as I've followed at least 15 different people that had the same or similar issues. Usually has U1000 codes when you pull them.

I have the RP5-GM11 steering wheel control module. I had a similar instance with my '08 Silverado. Gauges went crazy, shut the truck off and restarted without any issues since. A GM tech told me it could be a bad ground somewhere. Dunno, as long as it doesn't happen again. Thanks for the replies.

What is the U1000 code? Will it show on a regular OBII scanner?

Jeff?

You can clean your battery terminals and make sure they stay clean, but is more of a system related issues rather than just dirty ground unfortunately for whoever decided to switch to an aftermarket head unit.
The code is for lost communication and there will be another code with it too to identify the lost communication source, some cars are equipped with CAN bus, I believe GM started to use this in just about every vehicle in 2008 reason why you experienced issues with the Silverado.

U1000 series codes are loss of communication codes. There's a bunch of them, and if you go through the audio section you will see some of the common ones mentioned.
