Caliper slide pin not sliding.

My brakes work okay but I wanted to check the pad wear and I found that the front pads are wearing a little uneven. I read that the slide pins could be the problem. When o took out the pins the top came out just fine, but the bottom one was stuck in there. So I beat it out and greased it and then a few days later I tried to take it out again and it was hard to get out again.
What could be causing this and how do you fix it?
 


Clean it out, you can use like a small drill bit in the hole to remove crud and rust or whatever. Don't drill the hole any bigger just clean it out.

Then grease everything back up and see what it's like then.
 
good old rust. you might need to use vice grips and a hammer hitting the vice grips to pull the pin out, brake cleaner and a little screw driver work to free up dead grease in the hole. then grease the hell out of it and work the pin in and out till its smooth.
 
As mentioned, remove the pin and clean it. Then clean inside where the pin goes (I used a piece of red scotchbrite). Lube it all up (I use Syl-Glyde) and put it back together. The plastic pieces can come off; just put em back on if they aren't damaged.
 


No, I just had a case of terrible PO.

I got all new calipers, the ones it had were mismatched, cross threaded, and leaking... if your plastic pieces look undamaged, keep them.

One caliper bolt (on each side) has a plastic guide on the end. It is needed, so if missing, it must be replaced.

The two small things, lower left and lower right.....

Yes I still have that on it and as far as I know they are still in good condition. (no cracks or breaks) thanks for clarifying that


I also forgot to mention it makes a weird noise when you press the brakes. We'll see if it goes away after cleaning it out for real tomorrow

whats interesting is that I bought a replacement caliper bolt for mine and it didnt have the little piece on the end. I tried AutoZone and i didnt buy the caliper bolt because it didnt match. I went to Advance and they had the same incorrect looking bolt so I said "maybe it is a new design". Also, the end is different (skinnier on the end). I post some pictures whenever start working on it again.

The caliper bolt is sold on its own. To get the plastic guide thingy you need to get a caliper hardware kit, which also has the rubber booties that go onto the caliper.
 
Yup, the dust boot is press fit. Gently pull and or twist. If you have new one's, pull the hell out of the old one's. LOL

And the boot only needs to be removed if being replaced. It can stay put for the caliper bolt.
