What up. I wont bore you with a long history. Currentworking on an LS swap in my 1987 Trans AM. Current daily is a 2000 GT. Wife hasa 1998 GTP that I’m not allowed to touch.

Looks like I’ve had alogin here but never actually posted. Still trying to figure out how to postpics. I uploaded one and I guess its too big of a file. So big I cannot add asecond. I’m on facebook and a bunch of facebook groups. I like the conveniencebut miss forums. So excited to see this forum so active.

I’ve been in the GM world for years, but my heart is withPontiacs (RIP). I’ve owned HHRs, IONS, Trailsblazers but love my Pontiacs.

Life’s been crazy over the last few years. Wife and I justbought a townhome and looking forward to being able to actually wrench on mycars and not have to do so in an apartment car port.

I’m in the Valencia, CA area of Southern California.

Peace.

Daniel

Hey! Nice build. I’m only on page 3 I think of the tread.Very nice. On mine, its sad how close I am to finishing, but too many otherprojects ahead that need attention:

Heater Core in 2000 GT
Steering rack in the 1998 GTP (mount broke)
Ceiling fan in the bedroom
Finish putting together my garage (evil lab) so I canactually work on things
(house chores list goes on and on….)

LS Swap has some basic plumbing and some lite electrical. We’llsee if the car will run on the stock PCM tune.

Thanks for the welcome.

It'll run with the security system turned off (VATS) but if you changed anything like the exhaust or intake manifold/camshaft/intake tube/maf location/injectors etc you'll need to re-tune the computer.

Ahh. Yeah, I do not. I’m sure it’s got the VATS engaged. Cananyone help me out with a starter tune? No really, can you?? lol.

That S-10 is going to be nice by the way. Looking forward toseeing this build thru.

Regarding the LS Swap in the Trans AM:

So here is my hodge podge build of parts:

5.3 all Aluminum from a 2003 GME Envoy
LS6 Intake from a buddy’s 2004 GTO (He put on a Maggie)
LS2 cam & springs (better upgrade then stock 5.3 cam)
4l60E (pre-LS era)
PCM from a 2000 Camaro
F body accessories

Basically this car has been frankenstiened together, butwith some decent parts.

With regard to my 2000 GT. Any top Swap experts here?

My wifes 1998 GTP has over 250K. Car was a buddies and webought it with 110K miles on the Odometer. Its only on its second transmission and Ithink that’s pretty good. Motor is solid, leaks oil, but is solid. Over allcondition is medium I’d say. However I’d like to get her into something morecomfy like an SUV or something more useful. Should something catstrophic happen(motor let go, transmission let go, etc), I’m not sure if it’s worth it to rebuild(depending). I’d love to do a Top Swap on my 2000 GT.

My 2000 GT was a real clean car with only 120K. I wanted aGTP but got a good deal on this one. Funny how much a GT car feels differentfrom a GTP car.

I’ve read all the stickies from various forums. Just curiousof its worth all the work. I’ve done a tone of work on the 2000 GT (suspension upgrades, etc), so it’s a keeper. The GTP not so much with the high mileage. EVEN if wetraded it in running, you know we will not get much for it.

Hmm.. right idea. It's Insert Image>click "From URL">paste link address>uncheck "Retrieve local">OK

If those are of your new ride and you want, you can start a new thread over in Members Rides. Looks nice, btw!

A starter tune isn't really possible, I mean it can be but it can't at the same time. Mainly because so much has been changed.

The stock VE table and MAF will be all wrong because of the much smaller intake manifold and bigger camshaft.

Did you swap front covers too because the LS2's have the cam signal from the front of the cam and not on a rear cam lobe like the GEN 3 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0 cam.

It will need a complete redo of the VE and MAF curve to run decent, invest in a wideband as it's a must. If you have a tuner like HP Tuners it's not super hard to learn but it does take time. Otherwise it's likely shop bound for a dyno tune.

It's so cliche. I love it.

Funny how much you learn from hands on and doing your ownswap.

Yeah, you guys saw. We swapped to the correct timing cover, got the extended sensor wire, etc. Correct reluctor wheel, correct spacer/flywheeladaptor to accommodate a pre-LS 4L60E. I’ve had lots of FML’s moments on thisbuild. Its been slow but steady.

Meet a guy on a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] gen F body form whom built mea custom harness – one that plugs into the bulk head of the car and merges intothe 4[SUP]th[/SUP] gen LS Harness into the motor. It’s pretty legit and madethe wiring so much easier.

Need to add some battery terminals (+12V) and power theharness, install & wire the starter, plumb in the radiator & steamline, plum in the transmission cooler hardlines, corvette fuel regulator and I think that’sit. AND a tune.

Got a buddy whom is somewhat local and has all 2000 F bodyPCM’s unlocked. He knows what he is doing and may be able to help. If I had HPtuners I’d love to get in there and mess with things. I cant really afford itthought.

These LS swaps practically install themselves! LOL

Links work for pics. Nice. Thanks for the likes. I’ve hadthis car since I was 18. I’m 40 now. Doh! Finally getting the car somewhere.Car was parked for over 10 years a while back. Got her running about two yearsago. Went from a TPI 5.0 to a TPI 5.7 only to blow a head gasket. NO way was Igoing to rebuild that TPI, especially everyone around me is pushing LS’s.
