I don't know... Guy down the road has a late 70's Regal that started life as kind of a cream color that looked really sharp.. He recently painted it black, and I can't say exactly why, but it just looks wrong. Maybe it's because it's still stock ride height and stock wheels, but it's just... off.
Kinda what I was thinking. Although my favorite car color is black, it just wouldn't work for what I'm looking for. Plus a black car in Tucson is just torture 4 months out of the year. If I were to get that car, or something like it, I would go so far as to track down a set of steel wheels with the original wire hub caps.

Wheels are an obvious must for any color change, and ride height should also be a big consideration to be done at the same time.
I will admit that black is often done, and terribly sometimes, but I don't think Brandon would settle for anything less than perfection.

Ha! While I do appreciate the compliment, If I'm being honest, I care very little about paint color and condition. As long as the body doesn't have any huge dents, I'm happy. My passion is for the mechanics and function. Fresh paint doesn't make any more power.
In other news... It RUNS!
Not that it's a huge surprise. I mean, it did run in the truck. But it's still cool when you watch a how to YouTube video and pull it off for yourself. No video... YET. I was so excited to get it going and watching for anything to go wrong, I didn't pull out my phone. Maybe I can get my wife to hold the phone for me tomorrow. It needs to cool down anyhow.

that is very true, and this, thing...or whatever you decide to name it lol, will probably go much faster than it ever should have to begin with. lol
Maybe use the old rad and fan from the truck, if you still have it? I'm sure you could figure out how to mount it to something so the engine can at least try to idle without melting. lol

Someone just posted a '97 S-10 on craigslist for $1000. Text from the add reads:
Wouldn't be as unique as a Malibu, but it's a couple hundred pounds lighter, and already setup for a fuel injected engine. Judging by the one picture in the add, it's in decent shape. Plus it's on my side of town. I'm tempted...

I bought it. Got it on a coin toss. Some other guy showed up the same time as me so we flipped to decide. $1000 cash and I was outta there.
Drove it 11 miles home, clattering like a sewing machine the whole way. By the time I pulled in the driveway, I was down to 5 pounds of oil pressure, but I made it. I'm thinking I should be able to sell the motor with all the accessories for a couple hundred maybe. The trans should be good for maybe another four hundred. If I work it right, I could have this truck for as little as $400.
That should conclude this thread. I'll start another dedicated to the truck. Probably won't be right away though. I need to sell my car before I tear into this.

i like the S-10 much better then that old ugly car lol
back in the day, i mean back, 80's remember the chevy luv? guy i knew had a 350 built to the moon on nitrous and a 4 speed. he ripped a few luv rears out, ended up making a 4 link to keep it in there. he had a box of new U joints in the bed at all times, with a load of spent u joints. he used to snap both end caps and the joint right a part.
i like the S-10 much better then that old ugly car lol

I don't want a big challenge my first time out.
After doing some research, it looks like the Ford 8.8 rear (usually found in Explorers) is a super strong and cheap option. Available in a variety of ratios. Newer ones have disks, and some of them even had LSD's from the factory.

Nothing right away. Maybe some tint.
Long term I'm thinking a tonneau cover (bed is a little beat up), a 98+ front end swap, and a suspension drop. Definitely nothing fancy.

I think of every vehicle out there, the S-10 is the best candidate for any engine swap. their base weight comes in lower than a Corvette, and I am sure they are easier to work on than a Corvette because they aren't so low to the ground. if you aren't going to use the bed for anything and are going to put a tonneau cover over it, you could shave a few pounds off by taking the inside part of the bed out. I've been looking for an S-10 to do a swap into as well, just haven't seen anything I couldn't live without.

This was a big factor in my decision. The truck that engine came out of was something like 5400lbs. The S-10 is around 3100lbs. That's a 2300lb difference, give or take. That kind of power to weight ratio has to be comparable to some pretty pricey sports cars.
I'd like to keep it functional. If I was looking to shed more weight, it would have to be from the front. I'm sure the back end is light enough already. Traction will probably be an issue. I have read it a couple different places that a set of caltracs make a big difference.

one of the guys by my brother's shop has an S10 with a 383 and a **** ton of nitrous. he blew a tire and it scared the bejesus out of him and now the truck is sitting there rotting in the back parking lot. it's sad and i would have totally fixed it and driven it instead of being a homo.

That's a shame. I guess I can understand letting one sit because you ran out of time/money/ambition during the swap, but to let a finished truck just rot...:th_shakinghead2:
You don't even NEED a butt ton of power to have fun in one of those trucks. They're so nimble, you can have a blast in one that's mildly hopped up.
