2 Stroke vs 4 Stroke trimmers (weed whackers, weed eaters)

So I'm getting a $250 store credit at work so I figured I'd buy my grandpa a new trimmer (and some other things) because his current one is an old ryobi on life support after being around for longer than I can remember, its been thrown across the yard a few times by him because he couldn't get it started not to mention the fuel leaks, the pull rope likes to jam when pulling and destroy your hand, million pulls before it starts ect. He mentioned to me before he was going to a straight shaft one when he buys another so I figured I might as well help him out. Not to mention I have no need for a $250 Menards store credit, we don't have anything I need considering what the store consists of.

So I figured I'd as if anyone has had any experience with 4 stoke trimmers before. One of my concerns was oiling issues when tilted or upside down (I'm going to call MTD and ask about it today) otherwise they look like a solid contender after some light reading about them. Here are the 2 I was looking at, planned on getting the "1 year extended protection plan" because why not technically not my money lol. So any input or discussion is appreciated.

MTD Pro 29cc 4 Stroke - http://www.menards.com/main/outdoor...41241084-c-10111.htm?tid=-8347199832935314488

Yard-Man 25cc 2 Stroke - http://www.menards.com/main/outdoor...41249785-c-10111.htm?tid=-8347199832935314488

get the one with a bigger engine.

always used echos for the most part, those f ers take a beating year after year with commercial use.

Had a 4 stroke because hey it uses reg gas and runs at a lower rpm etc

it was heavy. It sucks. The shaft wasn't as long and caused back pain. Super hard to find without a curve shaft.

So I transformed it into an edger and bought a Echo straight shaft 2 stroke. Light weight and snappy. Love it.

I'd get an echo if I could, unfortunately I have to stick with whatever menards carrys which isn't a lot. MTD, Remington, yard-man.

Lowes or Home Depot. I don't favor either store , just what they sell.
For example - HD had a kick-ass ryobi power washer 2800psi on sale with the Honda engine but had crap selection of stain (only behr)
Lowes had a crap selection of power washers but had my Flood stain

see what I getting at ?

I wish..wait. they are our competition! Are you crazy?!?!

:P

That's why my boss wanted me to take a Home depot bucket with me to the place where they make concrete pavers and such and package concrete and cement...

I love my new Stihl trimmer. That thing cuts through some gnarly stuff with ease. Wasn't the cheapest but man what an upgrade from my old trimmer. Can finally trim the entire acre without being hunched over at the end. Not sure how much you have to trim up but might be worth looking into if you can swing it.

And yes, I thought about getting goats but I'm afraid the coyotes would get them and then I'd have to trim it anyways, lol..

Don't buy a black and decker one that's for sure. My dad bought one and I borrowed it once, I went halfway around the house and used both fully charged batteries.....
That's Interesting. I'm by no means a Dewalt fan for cordless tools...so I hope Milwaukee comes out with one before my gas trimmer kicks it.

I'm not ready to go battery pack yet. My stuff screwed me based on gas last year. I took the plunge and bought a Stihl Kombi 130 with the straight string trimmer and blower.

Lemme tell you something about this beast. It'll blow 603 cfm which is stronger than a lot of backpacks. Makes the echo's run and hide. The string trimmer takes down most stuff. I recently added the hedge trimmer and it's awesome
