Post Whoring - 5.5.1 - We have a turd in the punch bowl

Mostly due to it's questionable origin. I did a vin check to confirm it wasn't stolen, but didn't go any farther than that. Not sure what the ramifications are of buying a vehicle that still has a lien, without a title. Probably not an issue, but I'm playing it safe. Doesn't cost me anything.

It does have the 317 aluminum heads. From what I understand, the 317 heads are more than adequate for a turbo setup, which is where I plan to go eventually. Probably just upgrade the springs, and call everything else good.

I was hoping someone with a little truck knowledge would chime in. I thought about keeping that rear end, but it sounds like it may not be worth the hassle?

Check out the Kahr CW380. Everything the Glock has for less $$$ and it's smaller. I love mine.
Is it a full float rear end or a semi floater?

As for the gun that's what she wants. She's shot many and that's her favorite.

Man, I couldn't say. Don't know much about the GM truck line. Yet.

thats a 14 bolt full floating rear. what that means is the weight is carried by the bearings in the end of the rear, not on the axle its self.

if you take the wheel off theres a fat hub hiding under that center cap with like 8 bolts, take them bolts out and you can pull the axle right out, then un screw and un clip the hub bearing locks and you can pull the rotor off. thats for dually rears for sure, iirc single wheel rotors may slide off like a front. pretty sure my 03 with single wheels i had to pull the axles to get the rotors off. my friends 05 dually 3500 the axle needs to come out for sure, been there to many times now lol

the rear brakes, hes some fun crap, one bolt of each rear caliper bolt is blocked by the leaf springs, so you break them free, then un bolt the bracket and take them off as one unit, then take the caliper bolts off. anther thanks gm, wtf were you thinking?

Scotty might know this. Where do the ls motors leak oil from normally? Got this one here, pulled the trans. 6.0l 141k.
Can't tell if it's the rear main or pan gasket. If they're common I'd just do them both

rear seals do tend to leak on them. my brothers just start to drip a little. its got the same rear cover set a 3800 has.

once you take the flex plate off you'll know better where its leaking from.

It spreads more than you think if the rear main is leaking.

I've seen some where once the rear main is replaced it takes months to even over a year to show other signs of minor seepage. And at that point it's nothing that brake cleaner can take care of and you won't see anything again for a long time.

Look at the wheel ends. If there's bolts holding the axle shaft in its a full floater.
Like this.....

And if you were a wheeler, you can cut the flange off some old shafts, so if you break a shaft, you can pull it and cap it off and continue on your way.....

Ever thought about getting another and putting it in the back window? I think I'm going too. I dunno if it will hurt the window tint or not tho.

Yeah I have, and tried it once. Before I had tint it wouldn't stay for more than a few hours, the suction cup didn't like the defroster lines. Haven't tried it with tint, it would be useless at night.
Go crazy and delete the key hole and mount it there lol
