looking for price ideas for father-in-laws car

Hi,

I have found your forum and I have a few questions.

I am selling my father in laws 1998 pontiac grand prix gtp 2 door coupe. He bought it new, it has always been garaged. It has 92,500 original miles, never wrecked. I believe it has all options for that year. Keyless entry, heated seat, HUD, sunroof, etc. It has new tires, new mcphearson struts, brakes are great, mechanically it is sound, except for the recent valve cover recall which I will have fixed before I sell. The exterior is clean, I can't find a door ding, it has been taken care of, barely driven in the rain, I could go on and on.

What is a good selling price for one of these? I was going to list it on craigslist, but I figured I would ask here since a true pontiac lover would probably want this car, if you can handle the gold color.:)

I am having issues posting a pic. I'll keep working at it

Prices seem to depend on where you live alot and if someone is willing to pay extra for a rust free and very clean car.

I decent lower mileage car in my parts is around 3-5k and 7-9k for a newer body style but mainly the GXP package cars.

I'd still figure around the $4,000-4,500 mark for a pretty nice car. Start you price higher and see if anyone is willing to come close to what you are willing to take. Someone might bite and pay a little extra.

As long as the rockers and rear strut towers are not rusted out, then I think you could start at $4900 and take best offer. May sit on it for a bit but someone that appreciates these cars will see how nice it is and what maintenance you have done and may go for it. These cars are getting harder to find in rust free well maintained condition. The gold color could be a strike as it will have to somewhat appeal to the buyer. it would not be my first color choice but someone else may not mind one bit. Good luck with the sale, sounds like a very nice ride.

spoken like a turd lowball teenager

I would say 5000 would be fair.

I go CL all the time and see GP's listed for the $5000 price tag and they just sit there for months. No one is gonna is gonna pay $2000 more when they can find others for cheaper. And then I go back and see them at a reduced price.

If you pull out of the driveway and are ran over by a semi destroying it completely, three grand is about what insurance will pay. The value on my two barely adds up to that much. But there's a sucker born every minute. At 4K+, you are not likely to even get a call on it. It's almost like there's a special value penalty for having a 97-03 GTP. The only way to get the value out of that car is to drive it for the next 5-10 years and do absolutely nothing to it. If it just won't sell, you'll have to remove engine and trans and scrap the body just to have parts that will. Other parts are pointless to keep and try to sell because the teardown work isn't worth the garage sale prices you'll have to sell at. Advertise for 32-3500 and hope you get lucky.

Im in your same area I bought mine for 800 bucks but it was a 132k basket case.. but already had mods. So no where near the quality of your car. i would say here in portland your car is valued at 3500 to 4500. there is not a lot gtp's around here also on top of that most are beaters like mine. So even though its gold you may fetch a better price.. average price around here is 1200 to 3500 keep in mind a good number of CL cars here are 150 to 250k miles. good luck with your sale

you should buy it and race me ;)

Thanks for the idea's. When I can figure out how to get some pics here, I will list it for 4,000 and see how much interest it generates. I also have a modular chain that he bought for the car, its called a spikes spider, he used it once on a january trip to vegas. I hope some pontiac lover buys the car so it goes to a good home of someone who appreciates it.

Rule of craigslist, if you have the time, start high and try and find a sucker, might take you a month or two to sell, but, hey, if you get an extra $500-$800 why not. But, that's just me. Around here 6th gen GTPs are mostly rusted out and/or beat to crap.

I need to add some inside pics, but it was raining all day. Let's see how tomorrow is. She's a fun car, I'm sure it does great on the hills! Wowitsfast, you could add another to your collection :)

My father in laws car is for sale. I had a crazy turn of events. The car started making a loud knocking and squealing from the motor. I pulled all the belts and it still is happening. I have decided to sell this as-is, since summer is coming and I don't want to change a motor. Other than the knock, this car is in pristine condition. It will make a nice car for someone

I wish! Nope I drove it home changed out the supercharger coupling, lower motor mount and had the abs light fixed, then this happened. It is a crazy coincidence. Are you sure you don't want a parts car? Ill make you a deal on her :)
