mine sounds like stripping gears

Re: Second of two problems....The Sunroof....

Thats probably going to be a messed up sunroof regulator. Plastic screw-type drive thingy can strip out or eat debris then once a chunk is gone its toast. If its a 6th gen with a pop-up / slide back sunroof, I know you can drop the overhead console where the switch is, and take the motor loose. Might need a visor loose and the tricky sunroof trim ring off to get access. But if you take the motor loose from the reg, you can cycle it by hand then you'll see. Any grindy noises or notchy operation mean quit messing with it until you can replace the huge regulator. You don't want to have it stuck open lol.

Well... Its a '71-2, bored .030, has plain low compression small valve heads. But with HEI, Eddy intake & 750, unknown # Schneider cam (approx RA4?), Doug's 3 tube headers, TorkMaster 2000 B&M converter, TCI Trans-Scat stage 1 shift kit (manual but not full manual), HD sprag, deep pan and brass filter, lets see... unknown el Camino 12-bolt with 3.31s I think. With the old 400, I had potential for 14 flat, best was a 14.2 @ 95. That was overcammed but this 455 is a better recipie and is just strong overall. Runs out of air past 4.500. I have some big valve heads and Harland Sharps I need to swap on. So really, not much more attitude than a GTP but it sounds and withstands punishment way better. The FWD GPs are the "junk" but the old one is sliding downhill too.

Re: Second of two problems....The Sunroof....

Ok picked up. Complete sunroof assembly and steering column for 140...... Gonna try to get everything working tomorrow!
i will post up details on how it turns out.

Re: Second of two problems....The Sunroof....

ok been an interesting day.....i found out a 2006 GPGT sunroof is different than an 04, even the motor has a different plug.....so it will have to wait for now :(

Re: Second of two problems....The Sunroof....

so i gotta question if any one knows: with the motor of the car ,shouldnt i be able to open the roof by hand?
the motor spins fine both directions,i think the track is all jacked up.

You can move the regulator freely with the motor off... on one like my 99s. Sounds like your drive mechanism ate a chunk. It could be that part is same and just the frame of the regulator is diff. Not really worth disassembling a regulator to find out, or maybe it is. I learned awhile back that the sunroofs may all look the same but thats decieving. So I quit trying to really help with sunroof stuff.

well upon doing a little research the assembly is interchangable for 04-05 only, while the motor is the same from 98-05......so im going to take it back and look at the one from the 05 Buick Lacrosse which is supposed to the same......
the correct motor for 98-05

the motor for the 06-08

Re: Second of two problems....The Sunroof....

Ok here is the end result: the track assembly was shot and the switch was working intermittently .

solution was getting an assembly from a 2002 Monte Carlo ss and it bolted right up with no problem.also
found out the original sunroof was made in August 2003.After greasing up the tracks it is working well.:)

Re: Second of two problems....The Sunroof....

What did you grease it with?
