Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - TRANNY SURPRISE!

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

Car is dirty as hell...haven't washed it all winter.

BBK, new suspension stuff, some fixes...all going in April 30th

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

Nice looking SAAB Dave, I like the way the bra fits you.....winter mode?

Did you score a new Ford?

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

Mmmm rpf1s. Been thinking about getting those in 19's because they're so light.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

**** I'm replacing on the Saab next weekend:
-Front wheel bearings
-Drivers front speed sensor
-Front rotors (upsize to 315mm EBC Slotted)
-Front calipers to 4 pot brembos
-Lower control arms with Poly bushings and Moog PS balljoints
-Brake lines to stainless steel
-Rear calipers with new ones
-Rear rotors (EBC Slotted)
-Rear subframe (new one coated to not rust)
-Rear upper control arm (new one coated to not rust)
-Rear lower control arm (stronger and adjustable)
-Rear trailing arm bushing to Poly (I have poly in there now, but they are chinese knockoffs that failed)
-Rear sway bar endlinks (Moog PS, poly filled)
-Heat tape wrap delivery pipe

Maintenance I'm doing:
-KBS seal coat and Rustoleum oil based rubber coating
-Coating the exhaust black
-Replace spark plugs
-Clean the MAF
-Replace one check valve on PCV that failed
-Replace air filter
-Replace CPS

This car is ****ing rolling on an entire new suspension down to even some of the hardware that holds it all together...wtf is wrong with me.

Things I need to do also to make the car 100%
-Pull fuel pump and remove lose baffle (common problem, gives false gas gauge readings on occasion)
-Fix two rattles
-Replace driver's seat bracket because it has a tendency to shift under acceleration and braking
-Replace roof antenna

Not sure when I will get to the other 4 things, but I have a ton of little stuff like clean the tail light connectors and dielectric grease them (age sets in, BMWs use the same connectors and have the same problems) and checking the wiring under my dash and neatin' things up a bit.

I still have a short throw shifter and custom pedals to install, I plan to do them while the drivers seat is out. I need to rewrap the vinyl on the roof as it is about 3 years old now and starting to let go, so I will probably do the antenna at the same time and drop my A, C pillars and headliner to wrap them in a custom cloth I have. Then it is onto the motor/transmission build and a revamp of the stereo while I am at it.

I did somethings, like rebuild calipers and built my LCAs

Detailed a car

And parked next to a corvette

and another saab

If I have someone in the back seat, the rear wheels will make contact with the liner ever so slightly on a hard bump (deciding either more camber or roll it a little) and the front rub a little nub that sticks out on the liner, I'm thinking I will let the car burn a hole in that, then buy new ones. I'll heat up the liner nub and invert it the other way.

Tell the passenger to walk. I don't really let people in my car.

And your license plate made me laugh, because I always yell WASABI!! to a friend at work lol.

New windshield next weekend and then rolling the fenders. I hope to install 4 brand new calipers soon and get the front wheels rebalanced (hopefully thats the vibration I'm feeling). Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

Washed and waxed the car today.

Thinking about powder coating the wheels in bronze.

Trying to find a shop to embroider the headrests.

That is about it.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

I like the silver on the rims myself. Car's looking great, never thought I'd really like a Saab lol.

Your projects are always interesting Dave.

But come on, wash and wax? I think you are talking in layman terms.

I like silver too, but the car is silver and I think I need a little contrast.

This is the bronze color I'm looking at

Well everything has been good with the car, drove it 1500 miles and the only issue I have is the one front sway bar end link gave up on life and it clunks right now, otherwise the car is kind of sitting pretty with no issues. If I had to gripe about anything wrong with the car is the Driver's seat shifts a little but I have a new bracket for it and the one headlight washer lost its mister nozzle and I have a new headlight washer that just has to go in (but I avoid using the headlight washers anyways). No zip ties here either, everything has a bolt. Guess I went boring LOL.

As far as future things go, it all depends on the baby situation. The wheels are definitely getting powder coated, I have a few more interior mods I would like to do but I've sound deadened everything and I have zero rattles from anything. And the big ticket items are the motor and transmission, I'm still playing with the idea of building a motor for more power but that is some serious $$$ that I feel may not make into this car :/ I haven't 100% decided yet. If I could find a good junk car with both the motor and manual transmission I need, make the money back and fund the build with the parts of the car, then we are in business.

There is also the idea of changing the color of the car, I've been getting good with vinyl wrapping and I'm thinking about giving it a go. Not letting it out of the bag as to what color, but it is a pearl.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

I sold the BBK that I pieced together, the rotors that I had for it were 10lbs heavier per rotor over what I had. Just seemed to be not worth it because of the added mass, so I am working with the idea of doing wilwood calipers on the stock size rotors. But for right now, I have 4 brand new calipers and SS lines that will make its way onto the car this weekend.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill called me while I was humping...THE WIFE

Thinking about powder coating the wheels in bronze.

Have you thought about temporarily plasti-dipping them?

I had a buddy who was going to powder coat a certain color, so he dipped them first. He ended up not liking the color once they were on the car, and went a completely different direction.
