Might be time to go

1998xGTP

New member
Hey guys, pretty recent member. Some of you might know that I had injured my poor baby just after fixing every pulley, a new radiator, new brakes all around and new rear shocks. It may be time to move on to faster things as I bought this to run down mustangs all day which I can't do anymore when my brother is finished.

Some of you know the story of how I broke my car and some don't but I guess I will share it now. Me and my brother (who has a Pustang v6) he is stock pretty much, went down to a huge open road (3 lanes each side) and we were just playing around waiting for them to warm up and stretch their legs a little bit. Finally warm enough we decided to have a little game of cat and mouse doing around 110 km/h and we make it to the end and make our way back he says "lets see who can get to the other end faster" and from a 35 roll we punch it, he beats straight out and then I blew past him and i was like what the hell I know it should have been that easy he called my cell and told me slow down because he broke something. I get off the gas he zooms past me and gives me the finger (saying he was lying) and I try to catch him as my friend (240sx turbo swap) blows past me and I try to catch up and we get up to 180-200 range and I hear sputtering an then rpms go way down to around 500 and when I give her enough gas she wont go above 3000 anymore, I walked her home doing 20kmh (yeah thats hella slow). And haven't even scanned her :th_shakinghead2:

But now my brother ordered an eaton m112, to go on his other engine  I'm like wth, do my research and have decided its either go big with my grand prix or sell her and buy a faster car. Because there is no way I can walk him after he is done. So what I am saying I guess is, should I stay and build her up or is it just not worth it and buy a faster car stock?

PS the thread says important because there is no good bye...? prefix :th_thumb-down:

well i LOVE mustangs, as well as every other good american muscle car. but man STAY WITH YOUR GTP! the cool thing about GTP's is that not EVERYBODY works them out, like with all the other cars. Please man, dont leave. Stay with it, gtp's can be just as fast as other cars.

i wrecked my old gtp... then wrecked a mustang gt after i made that decision. im stickin with my new gtp now... im tellin you, stay with it man

You sound like you have invested a lot of money into the car. 700 dollar new low milage motor ( if it came down to that ) And a litle more money will get you a long way. Who cares if you can't beat you're brother. I can't beat a top fuel dragster but that does not mean i am going to sell my car. Don't get discouraged. Put that thinking into something productive.

I can relate to what you are saying. My brother has a built (331 carbed) 90 hatch back mustang. It won't be long before i'm a good second ahead but it's something i've worked for and should be rewarded to me anyway. It has been a ''side'' goal for me to beat my brother (but mainly to just be fast in general) So i understand what you are saying.

Lighten up a little and be happy. You can already beat a pretty good amount of other cars out there. Just being stock.

I will be more than happy to help you out in any questions or ideas that you may have.

Hey 1998,

First off like TD said DONT worry about beating your brother. That's a never ending battle, and sometimes those battles, especially involving automobiles can take a turn for the worse. Take it smartly. Not everything in our world we live in, is a race. Remember that.

Sometimes it's nice to finish in style than to never finish at all :th_thumb-up:

Trust me it will cost a LOT more than 2000 for a turbo build.

Yeah, you shouldn't be worried if you can beat your brother, or he can beat you. Both of you should be teaming up and working together to beat everyone else that you can. Especially with both of you having V6's.

if you like driving your prix then keep it. i like driving mine because it will go through a ton of snow, it gets decent mileage, it is fairly fast for what it is, and fixing it is cheaper than any other car ive ever had.

if youre ready to move on then go for it, but if youre moving on because you dont want to fix it then youre going to end up spending more money on something else that may not be something you really want.

That's what I was thinking. The money that you would spend on something else could be money put into the GP that would be just as fast if not faster.

This is why I haven't sold my car and bought something faster yet. I use it in the snow more than my F-150 and with a bit of mod time and money, I'll have it running 13's.

Almost all of our engine failures are a result of "top speed runs". Lets see how fast I can get my car to...then POW, clunk-clunk-ping-chunk-THUD!

I have three prime examples of used engines I got for free in my garage that were such cases of this.

If you like your car, keep it and rebuilt it.

If you don't like it, sell it, and move on.
