loose steering after rack replacement

Anyone know what caused my steering to be super(super super) loose after having rack replacedand how to fix it.

Alignment done?

Matching rack, like magnasteer or non magnasteer??

And reman racks are game of chance anyway, not all are rebuilt to the same "quality" in a way.

Had it done at a shop got the rack from rock auto its the one for my car. Loose almost cant feel it when it turns not responsive . Yes to alignment. Reman rack cardone. As far as i know everything is bolted up right.

Did the shop bleed the steering system after the install? I'm wondering if there is air in the system. Does it whine when you turn it lock to lock? Bubbles in the PS pump?

jack both front wheels off the ground, car off turn the wheels lock to lock 10 times. check the fluid level if its low it had air trapped in the rack.

Will do tomorrow just pissme off you pay garage to work damm they should do it right and thoroughly . ya knaw!!!

It shouldn't matter if you have been driving it there aren't any air bubbles in anything unless there is a leak. It seems like something isn't sealed up maybe the lines from the pump to the rack. The system self bleeds itself jacking it up and turning the wheel does the same thing as turning while driving and honestly it doesn't take long at all. I've changed a few of these racks and pumps it sounds like something else is wrong I'd take it back and tell them to put it up on the lift and look at it and maybe you should look to. I know exactly what you mean you paid to have it done you shouldn't have to do anything alot of shops are hacks that's why I just learn to do everything myself.

you'd be surprised, wheels up, car OFF turn wheels lock to lock it will bleed out, where running and driving it just dont cut it.

I've changed 3 racks in 3 different grand prixs and one in a impala the air bubbles were out after just sitting there and turning the wheel a few times it didn't take long at all
