Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

LS Iron Block GM V-8

Completely depends on what motor you really want.

4.8 and 5.3's are the cheapest to find. The 6.0 in either the LQ4 or later LQ9 are the most expensive GEN 3 motors out there, upwards of $800-$1200+ for a decent mileage unit, they are sought after for the power they can make. Any aluminum 5.7 or 6.0 are just stupid amounts of money too.

is the 5.7 found in the mid '90's 1500 Chevy's worth building? does it have the same potential as the 4.8 and 5.3?

Stock for stock the 4.8 and 5.3 already make more power and have modern fuel injection with way better computer controlled systems.

A 350 bottom end can't handle as much power in stock form as the LS series motors can. It would cost so much to make the 350 worth anything, like making it a 383 stroker. Or you could put a nice cam with supporting mods in a 5.3 and come out way cheaper.

The 96+ vortec heads are the best stock flowing heads for a 350 but the LS heads flow better stock for stock. And AL heads for a 350 cost over $1,000 I think where as the LS already has aluminum heads.

The Vortec 5300 LM4 (VIN code "P") is an aluminum block version of the LM7, and had a short production life. The LM4s made 290 hp (216 kW) and 325 lb·ft (441 N·m), It should not be confused with the L33 described below.
