2000 Grand Prix with series 1 Engine, Weirdest engine problem ever!

Somebody put a series 1 motor in a 2000 Grand Prix. Surprisingly it runs perfect. Even more is that the check engine light is not on. But The battery is not charging and I'm worried is the computer really reading those old sensors correctly? Also yes I am currently looking for an air cleaner tube and filter that will fit in the space so it gets clean air.

put the air filter tube back on. no cel and all is ok.

get your battery tested at a parts store. have it load tested, and its volts car off. then test the volts car running.

the load test will tell if the battery is shot or not, volts whould be right at 12 car off. iff way less its bad.

car running you want to see 13 or more volts. if you see 12 or less, the alt is shot, replace it.

I'm sure it runs, but it's going to the farthest thing from perfect.

Both may be 3.8 motors, but both are completely different when it comes to airflow, fueling, computer controls etc.

Assuming that it's still running the 2000 GT's computer.

Okay do you know what kit I could use I bought the car with the air box missing and the tubing size is for the series 2 3800 not the series 1. I've just never encountered an older pre 1995 3800 being put in a new car.

Is their a way to make it run perfect? At the moment driveability seems good and it will roast the tires on command with trac control off.

run your vin by a dealership, they can tell you what it was built with. my guess is it had a 3100 or a 3400 that blew up, and that got put in there. its a better engine then the other two pos engines.

you can get a open cone air filter and a pvc pipe and a rubber coupler. we call it a open cone diy air filter.

its looks like this air filter.

What I got on vin check was this.

I'd honestly be scared to drive it lol.

The motors are like not even close to the same specs. I mena you already bought it so you are stuck with it, but I'd never want to own a series 1.

wow, thats lame lol

I'm not sure what to think, I had to wire in the tps then the check engine light dissapeared I was happy until i realized is wasn't charging. I bought the car for 200 bucks because when you tried to drive it before it would die immediatly upon pressing the gas. with the tps hooked up in a way that the computer can read it it seems to run great.

I have a series one in my 1989 Buick Park avenue with 212000 miles on it and it doesn't even burn oil yet. I'm not worried about the motor. I'm worried about if the computer is mixing the fuel right and not tearing it up because it can't read all the sensors correctly.

Well if anyones curious I'll see if the fuel mileage suffers and check the plugs for fouling as I drive it. once I get it charging. I'll post an update as to how its running.

AFAIK the GP never came with a 3400.
