2000 grand prix slp headers

I just bought a slightly used set of slp headers and I was reading the thread for headers and some people say the flex pipe leaks? Is it single wall? How do you tell? The guy I bought them from said he never had any issues with leaks the only reason he sold them is because he went turbo is it worth changing the flex pipe before installing? Would I be able to look at it and see if it has leaked? There would be black exhaust residue around the flex if it was leaking right? Also how bad do they stick below the car are they similar to sd headers? Will I scrap them? Does anyone have a picture of SLP headers from under the car? The cars not lowered any advice would be appreciated.

SLP's are single wall. Once installed you may hear a ticking, it's not necessarily a leak...might be the single wall.

I wrapped a flex on my set until it blew out years later, then welded in a double wall flex.

Okay so your saying I'm probably going to have to take them off to have a double wall welded on in the future? I don't really want to install these twice is why I ask. How far does the U bend stick under the car? Do you have a picture or could you send me one? Other then the flex have you had any issues?

Pics would be tough because I had them on a bonneville. However if you search on downpipe pictures, all headers are about the same.

Yea I've already searched for pictures can't find any I hate things stinking lower then the bottom of the car have you ever scraped it?

I have SD headers (about the same as any other headers) and I have scraped a few times but my car is also lowered a little. As a result of scraping it is flattened out maybe a 1/4" in and maybe a 1/2" wide. Not really bad at all. If your not lowered and you dont fly over speed bumps then you should be good.

Okay good to know could you send me a picture of how far they stick below the car? What's the reason for the U bend? Is it easier to install and better flow?

i got a set of used SD headers, the flex was replaced once on them before i got them, this is how far the trap went, it hit one time on a speed bump i took head on as a test to see if it would hit or not.

when i did the engine swap i put a new flex on and the drain trap is much higher now.

Why would they put that U bend in it? It just seems dumb is your car lowered?

no idea why they do that.

im stock height it hit once when i pushed the limits on a test. it was a monster speed bump. same one taken at a angle and it never hit.

with the new flex on there you cant see it any more when looking at the car from the low at the front. its tucked up where it belongs now.

no thats the old flex in the pic. theres a cat welded in place too now. its higher now since the new flex. i walked past my car before but it had been raining and i didnt feel like getting on the wet ground for a pic lol

its not worth worrying over, its not a deal breaker.

Okay I'm just trying to figure out what I want to do with it before installing it in just not sure if I'll be happy with it that low. I have a 3" zzp downpipe that literally has 200 miles on it im cutting it to use it with these slp headers to connect them to the catback. I was wondering if I could use this flex that's already been welded on the zzp downpipe?

There... is another thread with the measurements of a jig (post by me and summarized by someone else) that shows how to modify them to clear w/o the big u bend

screw this whole idea of cutting up your zzp pipe. you can sell that.

buy a $20 double wall flex off ebay, swap that in. put a extra v band clamp set up for another 20 bucks. makes swapping the flex down the road almost painless should it fail.

What flex pipe did you buy on ebay?

idk if its the best. some go up to $30 but look the same. the one i got is a dual wall flex, the flex part is like a 1/2 thick.

pic of mine with 1/2 the v band welded on it.
