Timing chain?

Nope. And stay away from single row roller chains. Either use a factory chain, or switch to a double row.

Why do you need an upgraded chain and dampner?

Many people run aftermarket cams with a new chain and dampner.

Unless you're going with a cam larger than .550~ lift with some aggressive 130lb + valve spring...there is no need for a upgraded chain.

I'm planning on upgrading my springs with my 1.9 rockers, and I've heard bad things about the LS6 springs I'm planning on using with the stock dampner.

But if you guys think I'll be ok, then I'm cool with that.

BTW- the car only has 58k.. 01 GTP

Yup new stock timing chain and new dampner you'll be fine even with ls6. Another option are the L76 from the g8. A bit easier on the dampener. Do some searching on here and I'm sure you'll find plenty of info.

LS6 springs are good springs. I've got them, and I've never had an issue with them and a stock chain/damper combo.

this is the first time I've heard someone say LS6 springs were problematic. GM has made and installed millions of sets in their engines with success. I would be curious if any other valve spring manufacturer could make the same claim.
