Where is, or what can i use to recoat supercharger rotors

Need you guys knowledge and direction on this one, reading threads and researching the web hasn't granted me with the directed answers to these questions which are,

Other than sending the rotors off for a recoating to someone, is there a website or place where I can purchase the Teflon coating? Or is there any other product I can use that has the same properties as Teflon that I can use instead?

yea I joined the dumb a** club and clean the coating off several months back. Jesus plz bless me with turbo:th_depressed:

Why do you think you need to recoat them or replace Em? Have you put it all back together and running it?
 
I would just leave them be. There was a guy on the other forum that found a coating in an aerosol can to recaot them. That was probably 7-8 years ago. I doubt the stuff exists anymore.

yea running without the coating It seems ok ..I came across threads froms years back where it was stated that you lose boost without the coating ....I don't have an aeroforce or boost gauge to tell me if that's so(which is sad but imma get em)......I honestly thought it was gunk ....and now thinking back the coating was chipping off ....I was just cleaning whatever because my IM gaskets where leaking and I thoughtless cleaned it out wit carb spray becuz I was doing the same to the IM

I believe ya ive searched the web and can only find place that ya gotta send ya blower off to.....if its good without it and you guys found that its find years later from the threads I read, I'm with that...if I am losing an amount of boost ...im thinking I could somehow make it up with meth that I got in there? iono
 


Never clean rotors.

Find a used supercharger with good rotor coating.

I bought lots of rotor packs from Ed Morad years ago for replacing the ones in Ford SC's (modified of course to fit) and never cleaned the coatings becasue the epoxy (not Teflon) will come off pretty easy. I also used to upgrade the early Ford M90's with the bare rotors to the coated rotors. Those superchargers would pick up about 1-2PSI. But it's not a apples to apples comparison since the porting and drive ratio are completely different with the early M90's verses a Gen 3 M90.

I think Embree Machine works still does rotor coating by the way. They are also known as ESM

Gen 3 or Gen 5? Might find one at the junkyard.
 
I was going to get to the point of telling you there was nothing to worry about. If you still have your egr hooked up especially because sooner or later the exhaust soot will build back up and seal what you've taken off. I was going to ask if you were monitoring and noticed a distinct drop in boost, of if you felt it sluggish... But anyways, I though you were just shotgunning at at non-existent problem and I was right. But unless you're racing with it and looking to eeek out that last drop of HP, no worries. When you put headers and larger exhaust you drop boost, same effect... A lb or two is nothing...

Put it all back together and don't worry, or if it bothers you replace with JY parts as mentioned : )

You hit it right on the head ...its no problem yet I just thought it might be down the road ....I noticed it but my car was without a tune at the time so I was blaming it on that .....ive got no egr ...got the fullsize intercooler, xpz cam and all supporting mods and running a meth kit zzp trans ....but I just use her as daily driver not racing don't goto the track or not just wanted to know if I f**ked the blower up do I need other or don't .......so with no egr I'm not safe???

thanks for the education and I wish I could find some epoxy I could coat mines with ...ive read pple saying epoxy, Teflon, and anti abrasion coatings are what can be use shocks me I can find at least one of them to diy them on
 

yoo that just might be the one even says withstands temps up to 650 degrees.....thanks!!! ...im just wondering would meth make it come off ...might gotta be a guinea pig.....these guys J57ltr put me on to coat the internal rotor case ...never heard of that one ...they was bout to have my money with that one might still do who knows
 


Gen 1-2 M90's had a lot looser tolerances than gen 3-5 blowers do the gen 3 has an epoxy coating (I had the info years ago from Eaton) and Gen 5 have an abraidable coating that wears in and they are different coatings totally. Coating the inside of the case was done on some of the guys back in the early 2K's on heavily modified gen 2's before the Magnum Powers blowers came out with pretty good results lower outlet temps, 1-2 psi boost gains. But again it's apples and oranges.

Aye you keep that education coming ....I need it ...and the change in coating is what made the gen 5 more efficient ....so putting an epoxy coating on the rotors instead of an abraidable coating it came with, id be recreating gen 3 problems on a gen 5 ...no thank you :th_shakinghead2::th_shakinghead2: ....
 
The change in coatings was only one of the things that make a Gen V more efficient. The Gen 5 incorporates a lot of the porting and enhanced airflow into it along with a rotor bearing case that is more in line with Gen 4 and 5 M112's where the bearing case is no longer just a plate, but more of a cup. It also shares the bolt pattern with the M112's. Mind you these are not huge improvements but incremental, the blower alone is not the reason an L32 makes 20 more horsepower. There are other small engine changes as well. It would be really hard to apply a coating to the rotors in the rotor with them installed since you would have to wait for them to dry before rotating them and then painting another section, I am not sure how that would hold up and bind to the next layer. I have removed and reinstalled rotors before and it is not an easy thing to do in the least. It takes a little over 10K pounds of force while supporting the rotor plate to get the rotor loose, and timing them before removal. Then the bearings are not easily removable, they are actually pressed in at the factory and a lip of aluminum rolled over the edge. Removing the bearings requires you mill the aluminum ridge and popping the old ones out and then drilling, tapping and countersinking about 3 small Flathead (not the screwdriver) screws to retain each bearing. Then once you get your nice rotors back in place they have to be timed back to exactly where they were. The shank that goes into the bearing isn't splined fully rather has an extremely small area close to the base of the rotor.

SGT. Marshal was able to find a set of Gen 5 abraidable rotors on a Gen 3 rotorpack from Eaton at one time. I am not sure if they are still available, but they were about 2 times the price of ESM's service iirc.

Most Used gen 5 SuperChargers have good to great coatings. They cost about $225 but you need an adapter for the TB.
