Are all 3800 cam gears the same, or different per engine type?

E.g. can you use a timing chain set (including gear) from an L26 on an L67, or other similar combinations, or will that throw the cam timing off?

I think the chain is probably the same, but I'm coming up with different part numbers for the cam gears. I've read a few posts on various forums that seem to indicate they're not timed exactly the same.

I could have swore the cam timing was in the actual cam itself from the na to sc engines. If you order the timing kits off ZZP and Intense there is no na or sc specific application.

I looked up parts on gmpartsdirect.com at four different Grand Prixs. Here's what I found.

All timing chains had the same part number (24504668) as I expected.

For the cam gear:

'01 GTP (L67) and '06 GT (L32?) part 24505393
'01 base (L36?) and '06 base (L26?) part 24505306

So supercharged and NA have different part numbers for the cam gear, but L67/L32 are the same and L36/L26 are the same.

What difference there is I don't know, but I'm guessing it affects cam advance/retard as I've read on a few forums. Does anybody know for sure?

The Rollmaster is adjustable. I didn't find any non-adjustable cam gears on ZZP.

I've had so many of these in my hands over the years, never looked to see if the dot is a little different.

Where's James when you need trivial knowledge? James.. oh 400TurbochargedSBC, come fill us in buddy.

So If I have a timing gear from a l26 and one from a l67, they would look and work identical but the dot is in a different location on the gear ?

SC (triangle Windows iirc) are 2* retarded at the keyway over the NA (round holes).
Both are PM "forgings"

Thanks! Good info.

So if you used a cam gear from an L26 on an L67 (with the stock L67 cam) it would advance the cam 2 degrees over stock...
And an L67 cam gear on an L26 (with stock L26 cam) would retard the cam 2 degrees from stock...

Not that you would necessarily do that, I'd think you would get an adjustible if you wanted to fine tune cam advance/retard.

Here is an l26 set I want to use on a l67 because it's brand new

the. And the teeth are in the same position the keyway at the center that holds the camshaft in alignment is 2 degrees retarded on the supercharged setup this move the powerband up to reduce the customer complaints of burnouts in the rain from excessive low end torque
