You realize that when you are doing 100mph+ and lock the brakes, that the studs hold just fine? When you spin the wheels from a stop..it's the lugs/force of lug nuts holding that take the force?
I feel there's holes in this theory of axle causing it. Just sayyyyyin
Important thing is you are safe and a car can be fixed.

I knew I'd get an engineer to post. Soooo does the axle vibration make sense? I'm thinking of those people you see with a wheel looking like it's about to come off based on balance or bent rim... somehow..those stay attached.

Never said the axle caused the wheel to fall off. I said that I could see an axle blowing apart before causing the wheel to fall off. I was gonna say the lug nuts weren't tightened properly but in some instances SEVERE vibration can cause nuts and bolts to loosen a bit. May have loosened the lug nuts a little and the rotation of the tires could have loosen them some more.

The more I thought about it, the less likely I thought it was that the axle could cause the studs to snap.
I guess the mega vibration from the axle caused the lugs to loosen. Because I know I tightened them, zapped them all with the impact gun.
Its what ever, I'm covered because "I hit a pot hole".

Just read back a little to see what happened... I think Russosaur gets the chicken dinner because that wheel knows the truth and the lug holes will tell it. I'd also say the red GP is a lucky one because theres SO many ways that could have been worse. Hope the car isn't hamburgered too bad underneath. Sux.

I dont think I over tightened the bolts either. Put the impact on a light setting.
Im very lucky in many ways. One, there was nobody around me that I could cause damage too. Two the car just took it and slid straight. Three, the wheel hit an exit sign post and bounced off into the grass. If it didnt hit that it probably would have just went into the woods and i'd never see it again.
Also I don't think there would be too much damage underneath, the subframe usually hits the ground first. And I slam that thing on the pavement daily.

Yeah I was sitting at a red light one day and a loose wheel from a dually came outta nowhere and went straight into my driver's door. That sucked too. I figured your rocker probably scraped some but with bags that undercarriage is probably no stranger to road contact lol. Glad you had coverage and are OK.
