1.9 rockers in a gtp

I did some searching but came up empty on this so here I am. Do rockers increase or decrease kr? I have a 97 gtp with a cai tr55s 180tstat and reptile pcm. I also have headers that I haven't installed yet. Do I have to have the headers on to install the rockers? Anything else important to know about rockers? Thanks!

Rockers decrease KR. Depending on which ratio you get (1.7/1.8/1.9/1.95), they add lift to the valves, much like a cam but on a smaller scale. Many people do rockers, such as myself, because its basically all bolt on stuff besides new springs (90# will be needed). Easy installation for a KR reducing and 15ish whp gain. Not to shabby, ey?

Headers are a must have for these cars, since the stock manifolds flow no better than a coffee straw. So you did good there. I would install the headers as soon as possible, or even at the same time as the rockers.

Keep in mind for rockers, there are two different kinds. Stock Modded rockers ZZP sells, they are literally stock rockers with the seat moved on them to achieve 1.9 ratio. Many people go this route. I went with Roller Rockers. These are much more expensive but have a roller tip and reduce friction on the valve train. Since I'm not doing cam, I wanted the most out of my rocker setup. To each their own though.

1.95 roller rockers killed off 5 º of KR when it was all stock had 8* kr. U bend delete killed off the last 3* kr.

you need new springs, rockers bolts, and retainers to go with the rockers. ans while you got the springs off, change the valve seals.

I'd like to put new headers on, but after hearing all the trouble people had for the rear one, I'll pass. Plus they're pretty expensive.

dont be a wussy. theres more of us with headers and no issues vs ppl with leaks and crap. you only hear about the people with leaks, not the people who dont.

and 95% of leaks are installer error.

and 200 shipped for new sd headers is cheap. they only go up from there. like zzp's @ $800.

I love my ZZP Headers, best fitment IMO. I also have the YT 1.9 rockers from INTENSE and really appreciate the quality of them. Like some others I do not plan on going the cam route so for me getting the best rocker/header setup was important to me.

What all has to be done to get tot he rear headers? Do you go from under the car? I know you need to unbolt it from the DP and if you don't have one, put one in while you're there. But any good strategies? Front seems pretty easy.

For what they are, they are in my opinion. Especially since I have no major mods done.

clearly its above your wrenching comfort.

if you ever plan to mod it, headers are the first step. and aint you n/a? modding a n/a car is like next to worthless.

Anything under like $100 that unlocks a decent amount of horsepower is fine by me. Sure the tune I want is $125, butt hat $25 is like 4 hours of working lol. And that will open some power. That's why I think headers are expensive for what they are. I know you need them and on their own they unlock a bit of power, but yeah.

$200 headers aren't expensive hell that's cheap.. Have you ever looked at what mods cost for other vehicles..

get a better job? lol theres no power making mod under a 100 bucks really. nothing thats worth anything on a n/a car really.

id not even bother with a tune in your case. work on its looks. you can buy a buffer and pads and good products for that 100 bucks. you'll get more out of that.

That's what I'm saying. If you do other mods to your car like a top swap or new heads or what have you, then headers are gonna seem cheap. But with me spending like no money on mods, $200 is a lot for headers. I'm sure if I put in a new tranny, headers will seem like nothing.

I make $9 an hour, but work like 15 hours a week. No, more like 20 hours.

Hey guys thanks for all of your help! I am looking at a used set of zzp 1.9 modded rockers. Do I have to get new springs? I know the stock are "compatible" so do I need 90 springs?
