Re: 1997 Black GTP - Intercooler Core Installed.

I glued the heads of a couple bolts to the bottom of the ICM and used nuts with lock washers on the bottom of the mount. I've been having some issues with vibration and one of the nuts fell off, but the other two nuts/bolts held so it was fine. if I remember correctly there are slots that the bolt heads fit into on the bottom of the ICM.

edit for more info: don't bother routing the intercooler hoses through the gap, when the engine rocks from heavy acceleration it puts a kink in the hose, at least that's what happened to mine. you might be able to do it if there is enough clearance and enough slack in the hose, but then the hood probably wont close because the icm will be up too high.

I have been thinking about putting a wbs pulley wrap kit on to see if it routes the belt low enough to clear the icm mount, just haven't got to it.

I told him about those garleaks. Rtv or make your own gaskets.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Intercooler Core Installed.

Since I had another car to drive, I decided to tackle the rest of the intercooler job. Parked the car in the garage and went to work. Been extremely busy with work, daughter, family, and other things. So it took me 3 days to finish, with a total of about 6 hours. As this all was a first for me, removing the bumper, installing the FMHE/pump/hoses/wiring. But I'm glad to say, everything went smoothly for the most part and she's up and running with ZERO leaks.

Day 1, just got the bumper off:

Day 2, got the front mount/pump on and hoses ran:

Day 3, finished it up:

I ran Peak Green Coolant through the system, incase there are any leaks I can determine if it's the Car (Dex-Cool), or the intercooler system. I also took the Belt Wrap off for now, as the belt clears the bracket if it sits on the furthest rib on the pulley. I may end up doing something with those intercooler lines eventually as the zip ties kinda kill the looks of it for me right now, but it's a Grand Prix, so it needs zipties.

Couldn't figure out the wiring for the pump. With the relay I grounded it out, gave it constant voltage from the battery, then ran an Add-A-Fuse line to the fuel pump fuse for the switched source, but even with the car off the pump would constantly run. :th_scratchhead: Tried a few other things, but same thing. So I ended up just splicing it into my Halo's switch for now.

As of now, I can't really utilize the full effect of the intercooler because I am completely out of fuel. With my setup on a 3.2 with a Gen V, I'm pushing my stock injectors to the absolute max. For now it's just going to be a KR killer until I can get my hands on some 60# injectors.

Before I ever left the W-Body scene, I've always wanted to have a full size intercooler. That's the big thing I've always wanted. Now I can cross that off the checklist. :D Up next, going to work on the rust underneath the gas cap one more time before I decide to get it professionally done.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

I'm surprised the transmission is holding up after that certain fiasco.

Nice... Now go on e85 and and cam and be done with damn car lol

e85, yes eventually. Cam, probably not. I'd like to see what I make on rockers first.

Do you plan on flushing out the DEX-COOL?

No sir. Nothing wrong with dexcool. Most people get high mileage used Grand Prixs wth original Dex in it, and dex will gum and cause corrosion. People blame it on Dex cool when it's been in the car for 15+ years and 150,000 miles. Keep the maintanance up on it like anything else and you'll be golden. People just give it a bad name, for being misused.

Watch it, old man.

Nothing wrong with dexcool? Is that why GM lost the class action lawsuit that had them shelling out millions in compensation to those who had work done because of the sludge?

I have service records on my Impala that shows the coolant replaced every 30k, and at 130k when I did my swap I also have pics which clearly show the coolant passages in the head almost 100% plugged with the sludge. Nothing wrong with dexcool? Pfffft....

When you got your car, was the coolant flushed regularly? Mine had 120000 miles on the original coolant so I flushed mine for conventional green.
