2014 chevy cruze 1.4 turbo with 6 speed auto

I bought a new 2014 Chevy Cruze with the 1.4 liter engine and a turbo. It has a 6 speed automatic transmission, I think its dubbed the 6T40. it has a 5X105 MM wheel bolt pattern and uses a 215/60R16 tire. there are a few aftermarket products available, but the car is under warranty and I don't want to void it. 3 years or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper and 5 years or 100,000 miles powertrain. The car is fun to drive even though it only has 140 hp and 150 tq.

The only difference is the interior...the Cruze is so much more refined than the tupperware Cobalt.

there are no turbo sounds, but you can feel it kick in. I need to find out if onstar has a way to detect pcm changes. some people say onstar can see the changes, other people say no. I would rather not mess with it until I know definitively that the warranty will not be voided. with the Grand Prix being a secondary driver, I can do some other stuff to it and not worry about how long the modifications take to complete.

I'm getting the windows tinted on Monday, and after that will get the car a good wax. one good thing about the Cruze is the tire size, which is 215 60 R16, so I should be able to use my spare snow tires when it starts snowing here.

My buddy drove me around in one a few weeks ago. It's hard to describe how "fast" it was or was not, but it did feel peppy, with the throttle mashed

If you listen carefully you can hear the turbo spool and what i think is the bov, putting an intake on makes it a lot more noticeable

it has weak topend compared to everything else, but the lower speed peppiness more than makes up for it, and the gas mileage is great. the car has like 250 miles on it and shows half a tank, which the dealership put in before I drove it off the lot. it does have the tap shift, and so I can downshift to 3 or 4 for better passing power.

after reading that conversation on the hp tuners forum, I am a bit more hopeful about modding the car later on. I'm not sure about squirting methanol, the owners manual says not to because of the corrosiveness of the stuff, so I will have to find someone that is more reputable than some joe shmoe on a forum that he is doing it and making more power with it.

ZZP has a tune I can get that makes like 10 more hp and like 40 more tq, if they can do that, I would imagine a custom in car tune would be even better.

I'll have to listen for the turbo and the blow off more intently now. when the car comes out of warranty, I plan on a better intercooler, an intake, and a different blow off valve, and a tune.

I wouldn't tune it.

That technically would void the warranty.

However a catted DP/midpipe/catback/intake would not.

Granted, the Regal Turbo we've got can turn the tune off via the cruise control button. Which is pretty slick.

those turbo regals are awesome, out of my price range too. I got this thing for 18,000 brand new. I'll look into the exhaust work because I imagine it will help the top end, which is where the car needs the most help.

when I filled up the car this morning I put 11 gallons in it, but the driver information center said I had used 13, so it seems gm still hasn't figured out how to calculate fuel consumption. I forgot to check and see how many miles I had driven before I reset the trip mileage.

edit: calculated actual gas mileage. first tank of gas was 31 miles per gallon.

Question: is my fuel economy going to get better as the engine get's broken in? my wife drives a 2010 Ford Fusion, it has the 4 cylinder engine with the 6 speed auto, and seems to be getting better gas mileage than is has in the past. it has about 50,000 miles on it now.

GM makes a catback exhaust that is supposed to make 10hp/15tq, but is expensive at like 800 bucks. the advantage is that it comes from GM, so is guaranteed not to void the warranty. I did hear recently that Bad News Racing has built a turbo that makes 250 hp at the wheels, now granted that is with all other possible mods. the other awesome thing about the Cruze is the transmission, the test car that made 250 hp has over 100 passes on the stock transmission. I don't remember any track times, but a car that weighs 3100 lbs and has 250 hp should be fun to drive and be reasonably quick.

The car is now for sale. I haven't made a for sale thread yet because I haven't taken any pictures.

My wife drives a 2012 Cruze LT.. the 1.4 banger turbo. It's a decent car. Roomy for what it is. She's racked up the miles on it too in the last two years (40k at least). She gets about 400 miles to a tank. City/highway.

Be prepared for some **** to leak on it. Their korean motors and everything is plastic. So far the water pump, oil cooler, something with the cam cover leaking and the water outlet housing (plastic). All of it has been covered under warranty. Some of the stuff (water pump and cam cover) has been extended to 150k warranty.

mandrelbentexhaustsystems.com makes a cat back for pretty cheap though. I wouldn't mod anything on the car and just drive it but it's my wife's :).

I don't plan on modding it, unless they find a way to make 300+ hp at the wheels, and I still have the car when it's paid for.

I'm really tired of making the payment on this car. Tomorrow I will be going to a dealership to see if the offer they made back in June for trade in still stands. they have a 2005 Buick LaCrosse with the 3.6 engine and a 2008 Chevy Impala with the 3.5 engine that I would consider getting. The Impala has lower mileage, but has an accident on the carfax, but just a side inpact with an animal. The LaCrosse is a one owner vehicle.

There is another dealership I haven't been to yet that has a 2006 Cobalt SS for a decent price. I might go see what they will give me on trade and get that instead.
