Windshield seal leaks

I've got a 99 that seems to leak from the windshield seal. I took it to a car wash and had water come out of the overhead console. Has this happened to any one else?
 


Got a sunroof??

If so, I'd clean out the drain tubes first and make sure the rubber seal on the sunroof is really clean and same with the metal roof that will touch the seal.
 


There is a windshield seal on rockauto for $20, is that all I need. Dealing with polyurethane seems like more of a stop gap method.
 


I've put lots of miles and washes on a couple 99s with sunroofs and never encountered this. To my knowledge it is not a common GP problem.

FWIW, GM does not and never has considered leakage during pressure washing to be an issue. Meaning if you have a brand new one and it only leaks when pressure washed, that is not a valid warrantee-able complaint. Hose and bucket is the proper way, under 50 PSI.

That being said... if it leaks but you are not able to see exactly where its coming in, and you have a good windshield already, a glass installer can probably take care of it in an hour or so by removing and resetting the glass. Might be like $60, call around and ask about resetting the windshield due to water leak. Beats trying to locate and fix it yourself. They may suggest back-filling with sealant in case the 5 minute fix will work. And thats OK if it does, but thats often just a temporary solution for a faulty previous install. Believe me, if theres any weak spots in the windshield seal you don't want that in a wreck!
 
The windshield is in great shape for a 16 year old car. I pulled down the overhead console and couldn't see anywhere that water could get in. The only thing I could think of was the windshield seal.

The rubber seal really just helps wind pass over the seam. The actual waterproof seal is a bead of urethane sealant below the rubber and its what actually holds the glass to the car. They cut through it with a knife, remove glass, then put down new seal and sealant then reinstall. On a 97-03 GP a new windshield is around $200 installed at your place, even if its "with HUD". Remember that before you pay $60 to re-seal it... because with new, you fix the leak and get new seal and glass plus have a warranty against leaks.

Look at the tint band at the top of your winsdhield... is it brownish? If more brown than blue, your glass is past it's life expectancy anyway and you might appreciate a new one if you had it. I recommend stopping by a reputable local auto glass installer for advice since they can look at what you have. I am real happy with the Pilkington windshield I recently got. Different brands are available, check with local installer. My installer used an aftermarket seal that acually fits better than a factory one. Some glass guys know their stuff, and some just slap on windshields then take yer $!

Or they cut the **** out of the windshield trim while removing it, don't bother replacing it or saying anything and still charge you full price.

BTW that is not a seal its rubber windshield trim.
 
Busta, what Keith said is true.

Slick, Troll road is a two-way street. I call that a molding but the OP calls it a seal so I used their term to avoid confusion. I believe you got a word wrong, don't instead of didn't. Snap to reality. If you were suggesting my molding was improperly installed, thats also wrong.
