Lottery discussion

I spend lots of my hard earned money gambling all the time... and lose. The day I hit a million, it's my retirement fund. I'd tip if I hit at the casino, but on a lotto ticket? No way José

I think throwing a small tip to the cashier may have been a nice gesture but unless he was a dick about it, I wouldn't get upset about not getting one.

Based on all the discussion here, why is there social pressure to tip a bartender? Bartenders are paid to do their job just like everyone else - if they don't like their base pay get a different job.

You are talking two completely different things. Bartending is a service job that banks on tips, and is technically a skilled position. Running a register at a gas station is a non skilled job with a regular hourly wage.

If I had won that lotto, I would have came back and done something for the cashier... that is just me being me... if I am the cashier, do I expect it? No... for the reasons that have been stated already. I drive a tractor trailer and do a lot of residential deliveries... I hardly ever get tipped for doing my job and going above and beyond most of the time. Funny thing is though, I get tipped from people that I least think would do it. Whatever the case, I have no expectation of receiving a tip... I just do my job and am thankful that I have the job I have.
