Wanting to get 400-450 under the hood of my GTP 2004

Hey guys,

I am about to take off a week between jobs next month, and I want to use that week to mod the h*** out of my Grand Prix.

Right now I have a 3" Catless Downpipe, slotted airbox (just to hear that whine), 180 t-stat and a cleaned up throttle body with fresh LIM gaskets.
I have 0 KR, and Im ready to mod the beast.

As the title says, I'm looking to push over 400 horsepower in as affordable a manner as possible.

So far, from my readings, I've determined that I'll need headers, a CAI, Injectors, Sub-3.0 pulley, XP cam, double rollers, Northstar TB, Plugs, and an Overkill tune.

I'm just looking for people's inputs as to what I can do to the car that will get me where I want to go for the least amount of money.

Will my idea of the above setup get me 400hp?

I'm considering the Ebay headers, since they are only about $180 new.

I am also considering buying a slightly knocked up XP cam for $200. The guy selling it says its not much damage and it will not affect performance or life of the engine, its more cosmetic.

I have a 96 deville with a 4.6 Northstar that I will take the TB out of, but I am questioning if that will fit.

for a cold air intake, I plan on running 4" ductwork to the grill, and plugging a filter into the airbox. That will keep it looking stock.

Let me know what you guys think!!!

PS I know people will hate on the ebay headers, but is there actually proof that they suck?

Thanks so much,

SD headers, XP/S1x cam and all the trimmings, 2.7-3.0 pulley, CAI, 42 or 60# injectors, fuel pump and rewire, 85mm maf, either an intercooler or E85, and a hell of a tune will get you there.

400ish crank that is. But that's like 330-340 at the wheels so don't think with that you'll be speed racer. It'll be fast as hell, but then your tranny will go and you'll have to get one of those.

Which is cheaper/easier, Intercooling or E85?

My tranny is already going so thats not going to be an issue

So you are replacing the trans with a a built one to handle 400whp? You need to do that first.

$3000 for a trans built to handle that power is a pretty big deal.

E85 is cheaper. And easier. You could do both and run a 2.55 like frosty.

Or just buy his car i think it's still for sale.

Yeah I could go turbo, whats the best price you think I could get a bolt on kit for?

The Z7 would run me $4700, which is how much I spent on the car to begin with haha

3k for my modded intercooled cartuning turbo kit t70 turbonetics turbo st5 stattama cam and prj fuel rails.

send me a pm if your interested.

edit if that combo on e85 doesnt make 500whp somethings is wrong.
