• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Help please!!!!

2006 gp 3.8 non supercharged.

The Car doesnt want to start, I replace the ICM and crank position sensor because originally there was no spark, now i have spark and plenty of fuel pressure between 50-60 psi but it still wont start. it sputters for a bit but then nothing.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I Think you have to have a crankcase variation relearn after replacing the crank position censor. I'm not totally sure hopefully someone else can help out.

no light is on, and i wondered about the relearn issue but everything ive found so far said it should still run i unplugged the maf but gotta let my battery charge its been getting cranked on for a cple days while troubleshooting

ya did checked the wires one by one hell i even gapped and replaced the wires and plugs im at a loss to be honest i know its going to be something dumb in the end

leave the fuel pressure gauge on when its cranking and sputtering, maybe its loosing pressure.

the icm, was it new or used? have you tried putting the old one back on? never know.

and then theres always a huge vac leak, if a line has broken clean off and if large enough it can keep it from running too.

the icm was brand new and i put the old one back on just in case the pressure holds steady when trying to crank im pretty much at the point where im going to have to tow it to a shop and hook it up to a computer

i drove the car 2 hours to a job interview ran fine came out wouldnt start got it towed home and i had no spark so i replaced both the icm and crank, now i have spark but no start still

if you have a test light, take a injector plug off, then see if the test light flashes when your cranking it. iirc the injectors flash when the key goes to start to prime it.

a side marker bulb also works, put it in the injector plug, it will flash too like a test light would.

fuel pressure is one thing, is it getting gas is another.

you can also give it a shot of starting fluid in the intake as its cranked, if it fires up your not getting gas for some reason.

Even dumber question, you do have gas in the tank, right? Yes, I've seen it before, lots of troubleshooting, guys fuel guage didn't work and the problem turned out to be he ran out of gas.

Also, did you get the crank sensor at autozone or something? I wouldn't trust that shiz.

I have unplugged the maf didn't work. I checked the injectors all are working. One mechanic suggested it was vapor locked so I took all the plugs out and let it sit in the hot sun for 6 hours and no difference. I can't figure it out and I tried to drag it to a shop to hook it up today but nope I live in the damn twilight zone and both shops with the computer I need are closed on Fridays. Frustration is building. I will say I've been on a lot of forums for various cars in the past and everyone on here is very responsive and helpful so thanks for that.

if a mechanic said it might be vapor locked, don't talk to that idiot again. Where in Texas are you? I have a reader and most any other tool imaginable. I'm near Houston, but I'm in Wisconsin and Illinois this week. If your close I don't mind helping.
