Post LIM gasket repair questions

Hello all,
I have a 2000 GTP with 133k miles, got the car done today after being down for a while due to LIM gaskets. The first few times my buddy and I ran the car it was running rough and died, was visibly burning lots of oil and was also throwing a P0300 misfire code. After seeing this we checked over everything again and all looked good, other than a leak (which stopped on its own) that was coming from the golden EGR tube (?) with the bolt next to it on the drivers side of the intake manifold.

Little while later we used a multimeter on the coil pack to see if we were getting a good connection from our plugs/wires and all was well. Here's where we got confused though, after starting the car repeatedly throughout the process it got smoother and at idle the misfire also seemed to have smoothed out some as well, no leaks or anything. So, we cleared the misfire code then drove it a few miles and it ran nice, still a slight misfire at idle but no noticeable oil burning. However, even though the misfire code is gone for now, it now has a "P0134 02 sensor circut no activity detected bank 1 sensor 1". Other than that though it seems fine.

What could be causing the misfire and what was the oil burning about? What could have made it smooth out? Oxygen sensor? Vacuum leak? Fuel?

We're stumped, thanks for any suggestions on what to check or any help.

What was leaking from the egr tube?
Check the wiring to the o2 sensor.

P0300 Possible causes-
- Faulty spark plug (s)
- Faulty ignition coil (s)
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s)
- Intake air leak
- Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition coils harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection
- Insufficient cylinders compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure

A code P0134 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
- Bad O2 (oxygen) sensor
- Bad heater circuit in the O2 sensor
- Wiring or connector to the sensor frayed / broken
- Blown heater circuit fuse
- Holes in the exhaust system
- PCM failure

You didnt unplug the o2 sensor did you??

That would be the biggest reason for the code or the a pin in the connector backed out somehow.

Definitely didn't unplug it. However, my hand was definitely hitting the wiring to it when I was doing the 3 back plugs. Didn't feel or see it move though

When it was leaking, it looked like oil or coolant, not really sure which though. I'm starting to think I may need an 02 sensor. Pretty much all of the symptoms I'm getting line up with what I'm reading online when you have a bad 02.

Yeah, we did, even used a multimeter on the coil pack to make sure the connection was there. Probably will end up changing the 02 sensor this weekend sometime and see what that does, that's all I can think of it being at this point.

I started it this morning just to see what would happen and it was running rough and smoking again. Sure hope we don't have to take this thing apart again :th_shakinghead2:
 
Update

I was able to use a nice cen tech OBD II scanner today, I got the same P0134 as before but this is telling me I have a P0306 cylinder 6 misfire now. How should I chase the cylinder misfire, multimeter showed that the plugs/wires were good, what else could it even be
 


Swap the #6 and #4 plug to see if it follows, if not, then swap the wire. If it still doesn't follow, swap the injector. If the misfire stays on #6 through all that, check the wiring to that injector to make sure it's good. Beyond that, might be time to break out the compression tester, hopefully doesn't come to that.
 
Thanks man, I'm going to do exactly what you said and report back. If that doesn't work, sounds like I'll be hunting for a new daily driver lol
 
Found something interesting. Was about to change my 02 until I found this, wouldn't be surprised if this could be contributing to the problems I've been having with the car. Anyone know what this is/where it goes? It's coming from the #6 cylinder area, will take a better pic if needed, thanks all
 


Yes, that is a 4 pin connector. If you look straight down there, you should see your O2 sensor. I would expect that your O2 sensor is not connected at the moment.
 
Thanks a lot man, I reconnected it yesterday so that problem is solved. However, I checked plug/plug wire #6 since it still has a P0306 and found the plug covered in oil, not good, this car is also still puffing/leaking oil too. The dipstick is reading way high as well and I know it's not severely overfilled. The recommended is 4.5 and we used about 5. I'm unsure about what to do with the car at this point other than to take it to a shop and have it diagnosed.

Don't know what we did but something went horribly wrong during this project. I hope this is nothing catastrophic.
