Throttle Body R&R

The throttle body....looks like any easy job....don't be fooled.

Disconnect the intake duct from the filter box to the TB....box end is a screw type clamp....and the TB end the hose just pushes on...I leveraged it abit with a screwdriver.......

you are now looking at the naked TB (pervert).....lol

On the forward side of the TB is a support bracket that goes from the TB to the engine block....you can't remove the TB without removing the bracket, as the bracket blocks the forward lower nut

Don't you just automotive engineers? :th_skull: I love the hollow sound their heads make when you beat their heads on concrete.....

Why did I say that?
That stupid bracket (TB support).....the lower bolt.....is behind the exhaust cross over pipe.....and dealing with exhaust always gives me a sense of dread .:th_nervous:......soak all the hardware for the crossover in some kind of rust penetrant....and leave it sit for a while...20 minutes......soak it again.....
from that point I was able to undo the crossover with a 13mm socket and a 3/8 drive ratchet after removing the heatshield (2 nuts) adjacent to the EGR valve :th_winking:.....and then the stupid bracket ...2 10mm bolts...I loosened the 1 at the TB, and removed the lower 1....from there I disconnected the electrical plugs to the the TB, and then the 3 nuts holding the TB to the plenum.....off comes the TB.....

from there you can have a good look at the plenum....the top of my plenum (UIM)was melted :th_angry-censored::th_angry-censored: by the exhaust from the EGR standpipe in the bottom of the plenum

I've removed my TB several times with no issues and left the exhaust in place. It is tight, but my fat hands got it done. :th_laugh-lol2:

there was literally no way to get a socket/wrench in there to remove the bolt......I am a interprovincislly licensed motor mechanic in Canada with 35 years experience

So you are working on a pre 2004 naturally aspirated motor. I have gotten then lower bolt to loosen with a ratcheting pivot head wrench. Also.. you can undo the top bolt and simply "adjust" the bracket forward. By bringing it toward the radiator, you are naturally loosening it.

After 35 years, you've likely had to improvise many times. I'm surprised this gave you such a hard time.

Guess...I'm suggesting you get some cooler tools. It's possible, it's a pain, hence the push the bracket forward and be done.

from the bottom...doggy style? lol well it's done anyway....I have to look again as to your suggestion...there is a transmission in the way.....

I felt that if the W body didn't have that silly upper mount in the way. It would be cake. Cause..I've worked on Bonnies etc and w/o that mount, you can get right at it.
