New Member on the hunt for a GTP

Hello, I just recently sold my 1987 Silverado, and now I'm looking for a GTP to use as my daily driver.

At the moment I have a few options in mind.

My neighbor plans to sell his 2002 Dark Bronzemist Metallic GTP sedan next month. He hasn't given me a price yet, but he has owned it for a long time and has always taken care of it. It has 160K on it. It was bought cheap with a bad motor which he replaced maybe 8 years ago or so. It is rust free with a leather interior. :th_thumbsup-wink:

I have also found a dark green 1998 GTP sedan with 90k on it that I plan to check out this week. It sounds like it has been well cared for, and the owner wants $3800 for it.

Any advice/opinions would be great to hear from some gtp owners.

Also, whichever car I purchase will need some Bonneville GXP rims, because the stock ones don't cut it for me on either of these cars, except for winter driving. I hear they are very popular, but I wouldn't want to spend more than $500 with rims and tires, if that is even possible.

Thanks a lot,
Nick

Kind of depends on where you live. Cars down south tend to be cheaper from my understanding but to me $3800 seems a little high. Maybe more close to $3000 or $3200 is good cause thats around kbb value and no one pays full kbb value. Sounds like a nice car though. Definitely try and get a GTP though. You might get lucky on CL on finding some rims or even more lucky at a junk yard but i cant imagine youd find some at a JY. Welcome and good luck!

Thanks a lot. And I'm up north, so I imagine a nice and rust-free car is going to be more "rare" than a rusted out one. I guess I don't mind the rims on the GTP down the street from me because they are chrome five spokes, while the ones on the green car are the mesh type wheels with the criss-cross type spokes, and I don't like those very much. Said he wouldn't budge from $3800 though, but I'll at least check it out. Supposedly garage kept, and has a HUD.

Welcome.

You'll never find Bonne GXP wheels for that price, not unless they're destroyed, don't have tires, etc. Unless of course, you're EXTREMELY lucky.

I bought my 02 GTP 2dr a few months ago for $3200 with 153k miles. Black with leather interior. Fully loaded. Had an exhaust leak when I bought it but got it fixed right away. I've replaced the one fog light that was out and my new headlights and tail lights just came in the mail today. Missing a side skirt that I plan on getting fixed when it warms up. I love this car, can't wait to show everyone some pics.

Although I'm a little disappointed with the tail lights, idk if I like them or not now that I see them in person. They are Sonar LED Tail Lights (Smoked). Too much clear if anybody knows what I mean

HUD definitely comes in handy! I'm so used to using mine i never look at my speedometer anymore. yeah those cars up north are gonna be a little more rare especially one with no rust. if you could have him move down just a bit i think it would be worth it. i agree that this criss cross patterned wheels look ugly. i like the 5 spokes better. more modern look to them.go with your best judgment though. if you look on craigslist you might find some nearby for a decent price although you may be sacrificing your body with the lower price. probably will have a little rust though. let me know what happens!

nice ride! good idea on getting new tail lights. oem ones are pretty expensive compared to the after market ones. if they're too dark you could buy some vet nite shades which is like plastic dip but made for tail lights. you can start out light and progressively go darker if need be.

I wouldn't mind a two door, but I haven't seen a lot for sale around here. The only issue with the 98 is a cracked exhaust manifold and a fog out he said. Pictures look great, and it looks like a really clean car, but we will see in person tomorrow.....I wouldn't mind throwing a cheap set of those Speed Daddy headers on if I can get the price down on the car a bit.

Yeah we will see. Maybe a set of the Bullitt rims. If I can't find the Bonneville GXPs, I might go for another set I found on eBay. Not sure how good they are, but they look cool. Brand is Effect Wheels, but they're about $440 with shipping and no tires:

I wouldn't buy a 98 gtp especially not for 3800. There are simply better deals out there. Just gotta keep looking and learn to wait. For 3800 he's gonna sit on that for a long time.Eventually he'll be willing to negotiate after it sits for months. Also can he prove it was cared for? Does he have receipts maintenance records etc? If not then his word doesn't mean anything if he can't prove it.I paid 3300 for my 2005 gtp comp g and it's been great. I really enjoy driving it everyday. Don't settle for anything unless it's a good deal and you want it.

Yeah, definitely understand on that one. I've looked around a bit, and for the low miles and options, it seems like a good car, but maybe for $3500. I'll have to see what it is like in person today. He sent some pictures as well, maybe I'll post some here soon.

Where I see your regal and everything about it everytime you post. Is that your sig? I can take pics but car is dirty right now and streets are still dirty from snowy weather so it will just get dirty again lol. I Definitely gotta get some pics on here asap even if it's just one.

I'm starting my maintance stuff tomorrow, I'm going to buy NGK spark plugs and some aftermarket wires I just don't know which ones to get yet

Yeah, be descriptive with any mods too. I know that can help sometimes when someone wants to solve your problem without asking 1,000,000 questions about what major stuff is done to your car. I put my Camaro there because I'm proud of that car. Had 43,000 miles when I bought it, and you don't see many 4th gens around as clean as mine unless they're never driven, or are special edition cars.

Going from the 4th gen to a W-body sounds like a downgrade...lol

Lol, won't be selling that one, just replacing the truck with the W-body. I live on a hill, and the neighbors have W bodies. One has a Bonneville SSEi, and the other has the bronze GTP, and they never get stuck on the hill in the snow.

W-body cars do well in the snow...I can give them that. And if you have oodles of monies, then they can be fun cars. Fortunately, I live in the south, so I can drive my Z28 every day. Except the clutch sucks...a lot. I need to look into other options...
