ignition problem

So i've been searching for a week how to fix this problem. My windows are down and i need them up along with not being able to start my car.

The problem is that i cannot turn the key either direction in the ignition. The ignition is stuck in the off position.

I removed the white solenoid which locks the key in and it did not make a difference. I tried jiggling the key for hours, i tried turning the wheel and shifting the through the gears of the transmission, i do not know what to do. I am guessing that it is the ignition lock cylinder.

I have most the dash and trim around the steering wheels off. Do i need to take off the steering wheel to replace that part?
- Any tips/info/solutions would be much appreciated..Thankyou

also because i cant turn the ignition forward, i cant remove the ignition lock cylinder to replace..

haha, im actually resorting to that now..i just didn't know if the housing or what ever its called would break along with the ignition lock cylinder

yay, good advice, a hammer worked..lol...i smashed it in till it popped and i was able to turn the ignition forward to remove it..

Im having the same problems on a 97.key wont turn forward to start, sometimes backwards.anyone have a real answer for this problem to get the cylinder out?is this guy saying that he beat onnthe lock with a hammer hitting a flat head in the cylinder?

if the key is hard to push in the lock i'd try some graphite lock spray. if its just the tumbler being dry it should help.

sadly the only way to get the tumbler out is if the key is turned to run, theres a hole you push a pick into on the top of the column and then you pull the tumbler out with the key in it still.

Thanks for the help.i tried spraying wd40 in the lock no luck, ill try the graphite spray next.the key is not stuck it wont turn to the on position, only turns backwards.and if i ever get the new lock in will it need to be programmed by a dealer or just install and good to go?thanks everyone.

it may once the lock solenoid is removed. or unplugged.

i stripped a column i got for parts. it was out of the car and had no power to it of course, it all came apart still.

Ill try again tomorrow.is the lock solenoid the white thing that has a piece of metal that comes in and out?the weird thing is when i took the plastic off the column that white thing was plugged in but just hanging there,i put it where itngoes and no change.that metal pin like thing does move freely still

Is there a cable that runs to the shifter on the GPs? My Bonnie was stuck, and ended up removing the cable from the ignition switch and success. Just a thought.

Yah i have bonneville ssei.im so pissed lmfao!my bonneville shifter lock solenoid broke the same day 3 days ago.the same day my grand prix stopped turning over.talk about ****ing mad.the shift lock solenoid i think is on the column.im gonna go out now and try to un plug the solenoid.
