Heated Seat Cover - where can I find good power.

So I bought this heated seat cushion for the passenger side of the winter beater - 98 GTP that I picked for $400 plus all the parts for piston #3 - and I want to wire an outlet that only comes on with the ignition. My question is, does anyone have a suggestion as to where to commandeer power from under the dash? The cushion got forgot on for a while when my wife and I went in a restaurant to eat; this didn't cause a problem, other than a toasty bum when we got back it, but it would be a good way to drain a battery in a few hours.

I think your best bet would be to install a relay to control on/off of the outlet with ignition voltage.

Connect the open/closed part of the relay to your auxiliary power source, and to your outlet. Make sure you use the normally open contacts.

Then, connect the coil of the relay to any power source that comes on with ignition. It won't matter what because it will only draw a teeny tiny amount of power for the coil.

If you hook it up this way, the outlet uses the same fuse and power source as before, it just won't have power until the coil receives ignition voltage. Then you can tuck/mount the relay wherever you want.

That's a good idea. Being the cheapskate that I am... any idea if the air conditioning uses any continuous duty relays? Previous owner removed the a/c so no need for it if there happens to be one. I did a little searching and the one that I found looks to be for intermittent duty.
 
no idea on the ac fuse. a add a fuse does just that, adds a fuse to that power point. so the new line and the old one are still both fused.

wipers are one fuse that definitely on only when the key is to run, or back to acc. its how my amp is powered.
