Going turbo

Though I'm not going for 9's or 10's honestly.. Would just like a fast and reliable setup that might surprise a few mustang's..

That wont take much hp lol...... As for the trans it can get expensive fast no doubt!

Steven, what did prj do for a 3rd gear in your trans when he built it?

I don't think anything super special.. I think the raybesto red clutches? With the extra clutch/steel in there?

He got it all done about two weeks before the new sonnax 3rd piston came out, so I did not have that.

PRJ had it pretty much setup to bang into each gear as hard as possible. Which probably stressed other parts,
but kept the clutches looking pretty good.

Apparently Dave has a better solution now to make 3rd even better, so will have to see how that turns out.

So what does TEP charge for a turbo built trans anyway?

Depends on how much $$ you want to flush away. For me, all the $ tied up in just a few parts. GMR Collection of torsen/output/input shaft/2.93 then the Triple Disc Converter... probably $7000 in parts right there.
But I've gone all out to beat the **** out of it at the track.

4T65E-HPS4 $3599.95

If don't plan on 1/4 racing alot, can throw alot of that out of the window. Only thing I would recommend is try and score a GMR gear/chain set and get a precision converter. With those you are maybe looking
at $4000-$5000 build, and goes up from there depending on other harden parts you can get your hands on.

and there lies the question........

ohhhh 4t80...... i should have turbo'd a bonneville so that the 4t80 would fit easy with factory parts......

If i was to do this all over again, i'd entertain the idea of the 4T80E ... i dunno anyone that has done one yet in a FWD only application (not twin engine or fiero) and pushed it to the limits and seen
how reliable it is under some heavy abuse of repeated track attacks. Not many good gear choices, i think 3.11 ? is the lowest gearing option. I guess luckly you can just swap out the diff, and you
got yourself a different gear ratio.

Dave has it done on his own car, using stock pcm to shift it. I know he some "issues" to address but not sure what all that was about. I think there was a lazy shift problem that is just inherit to the
trans itself, and maybe can be fixed via whatever means he can come up with.

Ive sent a ton of PMs back and forth to James aka turbo400sbc and the only thing that i know of is the 3rd gear shift that can be fixed with the valve body if someone were to actually go through with it and do it.
The making it fit and then the making it shift would be far more of a concern than whatever soft shift issue there is. The 80s are so cheap by the time people shove a bunch of unobtanium mega buck GMR parts into a 65e I still cannot understand for the life of me why it hasnt become more popular.

A bonneville would be much easier to shove a 3800 turbo 4t80 combo in but yet no one has.

Its funny you mention a Gto. I have a 2006 with header back exhaust vararam cold air intake and a custom tune.. I like driving the grandprix more lol

You're broken. GTO is so much more fun to drive than a GP lol

Or a random elderado or something retarded. That would be hilarious.
