A couple issues with my 04 Grand Prix

So, I have a 2004 Grand Prix GT. I have a few issues with it and would love to eliminate them. If anyone has any info that might help me out as to what is causing what, please let me know.

1. P0128 code - Thermostat I believe is sticking open as my car does not reach normal operating temp. Going to change that. What is the thermostat temp I should buy? 180º or 190º?

2. P0442 code - States evap leak. I heard to change gas cap. Is this common to wear a gas cap will most likely be the case?

3. When accelerating, I get a constant shaking(feels from front end; steering wheel shakes) and then when I let off the gas, it seems to subside for the most part. Any ideas?

4. When I turn my steering wheel, I get a snap/cracking sound (turning either way). It is more noticeable when the front tire are low on air. Any ideas?

I will let you know the car was a salvage car, and when I first got it, the snap/cracking was non-existent.

Let me know you thought to all or any of the symptoms above.

Thanks

I would check wheel bearings, sub-frame bolts, rack bolts, tie-rod ends all bushings and pretty much all suspension piece that move.

I have a co-worker that said to replace the sway bar bushings, end links, and tue rod ends. He said he will do it for $40 if I buy parts.

Anything other info guys?

There is a sway bar stabilizer bar that the ends go bad on. You will have to buy the bar, but they are not that expensive. Make sure you measure your sway bar size with a set of calipers. I just replace mine and there were 3 different sizes for my 05. When you buy stuff check RockAuto and the parts stores for price differences. If you go with a local store, buy online and use coupon codes from Retailmenot.com

No doubt you need new axles, Also a new thermostat most likely. Only takes 5 mins to change the thermostat. Evap? Just tune the codes out ;)

Make sure your co-worker knows how to diagnose a bad INNER tie rod because if those are worn, they can make a pop sound when turning.

Still check everything out, as mentioned above... And always use a torque wrench on those nuts haha

EVAP Code:

Mine was throwing this because there was a component all gummed up. I forget what it was exactly, but it was located in the rear drivers side wheel well (Remove plastic to get to it). Took about 5 mins to clean, and no more codes!

I would compare your prices to "RockAuto" prices first... I always buy everything from RockAuto because 99% of the time its half the price from Local stores and very fast shipping.

I have gotten both codes on my car and 1 is thermostat and other should be gas cap because that's what I replaced and never got the code again. Right now im dealing with a clunking noise which I thought was from the "sway bar links" replaced them and still getting the clunking noise. So now i'm in the process of installing no LCA, Strut's, Sway bar bushing's which are .80 if you decide to get those as well....

Yea I plan on doing sway bar bushings, end links, and tie rid ends too. Might take car to my mechanic to get his input on the shaking.
