Gas tank size??

Mirraco

One BadAzz GT Dawgg
I got a 01 gt..I use DIC to estimate how much fuel ive used..Last time i got really low, i had used 14-15 gallons, and it was literaly all the way down to bottom of fuel gauge, is this wrong or do i still have a few gallons? Online says 17.5 gallon tank, but it was empty as far as i could tell with the gas gauge, and trip odometer saying i had about 1 gallon left with how many miles left.

Im confused or is the car having a reserve tank it doesnt let drivers know about on the DIC milage left option.

Its a 17.5 gallon tank, when the gauge is on E (light comes on) you can usually have a few gallons left or more but it varies by car it seems so i wouldn't push your luck. I wouldn't necessarily trust the DIC for range myself. I don't have a working gas gauge and just go by the gallons used on the DIC and reset it every fillup.

I see..Ive been resetting it every time and i got scarred when it went from 1/8 to almost empty in like 10 seconds and just filled up a gas can and filled it up with a quarter tank..I guess ill push it to mabey 17 but it seemed like it was out when i used 15.. got my system hooked up had to run new audio cables after i bought a new amp, somehow my rca cables when out like 1 minute before my amp started smoking, i dont get it but its bumping now, and considering i dropped from a 2200 hifonics to a 1000 watt alpine amp, i can hardly tell the difference, turn the bass boost up 2 notches and its almost no difference

I wouldn't push it too 17, the DIC is off by +/- a gallon normally or more. If the gauge is getting floaty you might need a new level sensor.

Im sure my fuel pump is OEM the car has 58K miles right now, but its working for now..I might push it to 16 i suppose, i dont like putting anywhere under 30$ in my car. Ide rather drop 40+ than put 20$ every few days/week.

I always fill up when i use 10 gallons, but working i fill up every week Friday which usually averages like 30-40 bucks a week. I don't like running the tank low because of possible sediments in the tank and crap like that. But you only have 58k miles? Wow

Kyle, I only put gas in my car every other Friday and it costs me about $50. I put maybe 300 miles or so on my every 2 weeks.

It seems like i fill it up from 1/8 a tank to full once a week, i drive a decent amount, i need a oil change been 3k miles do it every 3.5k miles, i always seem to find a reason to drive somewhere for something that i really do not need, went about 200 miles round trip to get struts, ps pump for 97-03, and 4 rims off a 94 pontiac for 140$, everything new besides the rims but was a decent deal imo.

Yeah its amazing the miles on the car, bought it a year and a half ago with 49k miles, had to do vc gaskets, lims the works, it sat for awhile apparently and dry rotted the gaskets. Runs amazing im happy with it. Got a system and tint, led smoked tails on it. Treat her right and she goes another 100k atleast

I miss my 18 gallon tank in my 97.

I miss the 20 gallon tank in my Stealth.

As for pushing it, I wouldn't. Hell when I put gas in my Grand Prix the other day it told me I had 37 miles of range left. When I filled it, though, I put 16.5 gallons in so I was really pushing it.

Eh when mine says i have 30-50 left, i can only fit max of 14.5-15.

Our gauges aren't super accurate at all. They are just a basic guideline.

With that said.. I've run the Regal way past E, down to the point where the DIC says "low" (under 40 miles left) and kept on trucking. Once.. this backfired and I coasted into a gas station.

2000+ Bonneville just tell you LOW MI when you get past 40 miles, like the Regals apparently. Can't let grandma run out of gas. I find it to be very conservative. When it drops to LOW MI I always have about 2 gallons left in the tank. Range seems to be very accurate. Fuel used always seems to be a gallon or so short of the real amount. What's also interesting is that a quarter tank is actually on the orange, or an indicated eighth tank.
