Knock sensor?

A little was showing. And it was green, so I assume it is corroded pretty far up the wire. I suppose I should replace it before the starter?
 


So problem, if I'm not mistaken, the engine isn't grounding properly.

So I ran my jumper cable from the body of the starter up to the negative on the battery. Started the car right up.

Ran the jumper cable from the transmission negative mounts to the battery, just clicks.

So for a temporary fix I ran a cable from the negative battery terminal to the top alternator bolt. Car starts fine now.

So I need to replace my negative wires? However, I believe the transmission is grounding which I assume is why everything else works electrically. The engine just isn't grounding, which the starter grounds to the engine through the bolts that mount it to the motor. So am I on the right track so far?
 
Your engine and trans are bolted together. The negative cable goes on a stud that holds the engine and trans together, so it's directly connected to the engine.

Your cable is bad, please replace it.

BTW.. when you figure that out.. let's talk about that rotating knock sensor ... cause no part of it should be loose and rotating.
 
Alright Bill. Now that it is running, I am going to go to Autozone since I have class here shortly. I will replace it, this was just a very short temporary fix until I can run into town as this is the only vehicle at the house right now =/

this is an old pic, but the plastic part that the electrical plugs into rotates. Turns all around. It shouldn't?

As a matter of fact... All 3 do lol
(Been here before, no I do not have 3 on my engine, I have 2 L67's and between the 2 I had 3 knock sensors that were not broke off at the base) =P

And is this the proper ground stud? I was told it was, however, that bolt just mounts the transmission case to the transmission body, doesn't it?
 


What's your question? The diagram is direct from GM, the pic is the way they are in color.

Currently yours is on the wrong side of a gasket.
 
Alright. Shouldn't be too hard to do that. I'll do the switching when I get the new battery cable. Is there a write up on how to replace the negative cable?
