Tinting windows

About to tint my windows..Would a heatshrink gun work a lot better than just pushing the water from the center out? I would think so.

I think most of the pros use a heat gun. But there is a fine line between drying the water out and melting the tint.

I have tinted a few cars myself before. But with the curves that many cars have in the glass, it is just much easier to pay someone to have it done.

heat gun on the outside of the window, after you have pushed as mush water as you possible can out. the heat is what really sets the tine on the window

Can you remove the rear window tinting without damaging the defroster elements? If so, how do you do that? Mine is bubling up back there and making it increasingly difficult to see out of.

I need to do the same thing. But I am going to get it re-tinted afterwards, so I will just let the tint shop remove it for me. :)

there is a spray called "tint off" you just spray it on the window tint.....and it should just easily peel off. it loosens up the adhesive or you could just take a razor blade and cut it all out....

don't use a razor blade on the rear window because you could easilt damage the defrosting elements

i would recommend having the rear tint professionally removed.

the older it is, the harder it is going to be to take off w/o destroying your defroster lines. take it to a place that way if they mess it up, they get to fix it.

best recommendation ever. I can do tint, but always take it and have it done, that way if I'm not happy I get to yell at someone that isn't in the mirror

Please don't use a razor blade on your back window. If you cut one of the lines it can mess up your rear defrost. Let the tint shop do it before they retint. I paid 130 to have mine tinted 20% with a lifetime guarantee as long as I own the car. If I don't use cheap cleaner and turn them purple, the tint shop will replace tint if it ever bubbled. Had it on 3 years with no problems. It's worth letting the professionals do it! Find a guarantee on the tint and the work! ;)

Maybe take out the rear deck so it's tinted over the third light too!

When I bought my car the tint that was in it was cheap "China" tint and had turned the usual nice shade of purple.

I removed all my tint myself, its not hard to remove the tint...its hard to clean up the mess left behind.

All I did on all of my windows was grab a corner and pull. Once it was off, I used a nice sharp razor blade and some Imperial Cleaner and that made clean up easy. I did not use the razor blade on the rear window, I did use a really fine scotch bright pad though, and with the cleaner...it was easy as pie.

Making a tint shop "replace" or "fix" your rear window if they f-it up is slim to none. Your better off doing it yourself. Plus, it will make the price of the new tint cheaper if all the old tint is removed and the windows cleaned.

I had my car tinted with commercial grade metallic film, that is 20% and meters at 17%, the entire rear glass was done in one solid piece of film, so I have no seams or gaps, I paid $100.00 with a life time guarantee.

I worked at a shop that did tint (car stereo store/distributor), and if there was any problem we redid it, a good shop will stand behind their work, a bad shop tells you to get lost.

This has always been my experience also, but was he talking about actually messing up the back window, and not the tint? Either way it shouldn't be a problem with a good shop.

I know what you meant. It just amazes me how many of these "good shops" are still in business in Wichita here. You ask any car guy, and they persionally have dealt with about everyone, or know someone who has, and there is only that 2% of shops here that will stand behind their work, or stand behind any damage done to your car while its in their shop.

My guy is one of those 2% business. I'm going to have him come out, and tint several of the new windows I plan to put in on my home.
