Vogtland Springs Will Not Lower Your Grand Prix

GT in Kennesaw

Vogland springs claim a drop of 1.3" over stock and while there may be some drop from "new" stock springs, my own experience was a zero (0") change in ride height. To be fair, my Grand Prix had 202,000 miles and there's a good chance that the original springs may have provided an inch of drop. I have no way to tell as my measurements were taken at 202,00 miles, not 0 miles. Other changes included new KYB AGX struts, new strut mounts, bearings and retainers, spring insulators, bellows, bump stops, anti-pogo washers and everything else related to the suspension. Everything. The list: rack and pinion assembly, inner and outer tie rod ends, front and rear lower control arm bushings, lower ball joints, CV axle assemblies, wheel hub/bearing assemblies (front only), sway bar bushings and end links (front), engine cradle bushings, lateral arms/bushings and BMR trailing arms (replacing the GMPP trailing arms that I had put on several years ago). New tires too. I did not replace the GMPP rear bushings and end links as they seemed to be in good shape. I also replaced the engine and transmission mounts and the upper torque arm bushings (poly from ZZ Performance). I'll include a few photos, starting with the before and after of the car.

After:

See, no change.

The rest are just a few shots I took during the process of changing out everything. All these steps have been spelled out in other strings and my experience wasn't different from those.

I mostly used MOOG parts, including the lower control arm bushings. I didn't buy the arms complete but decided to use upgraded parts which required the labor of swapping out the bushings and ball joint on the original arms. The ball joint removal is by far the hardest and if one doesn't have a 4" grinder, you will never get a better excuse to buy one. Having a 20 ton press also comes in very handy.

The pictures ( no particular order)

Stock, GMPP and BMR trailing arms. Any questions?

If anyone wants to see anything in particular, let me know and I'll add them.

Vogtland springs don't lower 1.3". They are more like about a 1" drop. Similar to the GMPP lowering kit offered many years ago. Give it a few days to settle. One thing to keep in mind is that the BMR trailing arm's are much thicker and they do rub with a high offset wheel. Keep an eye on your clearance.

I just took off my vogtlands, I thought they were way to stiff with my Bilsteins. Thats coming from a Koni/Eibach combo. The stock springs raised the car back up quite a bit. I would guess its combo affect of all the new parts lifting the car a bit.

They should settle and since it seems like your not happy with them I see the only option now is for you to give me ALL your suspension! LOL!! Id love to have all that on my DD!

Yea seriously though, i grabbed some ebays and they have been on for a couple months and just finished settling. I cant even get my jack under the car anymore. At first i was displeased but after a week i noticed the difference. Ride quallity is untouched.

You can't claim a 0" change in ride height if you never took the time to measure ride height in the first place...

DNA ride fine, it wasn't that much of a difference compared to stock FE3 suspension. Obviously if you have worn out struts don't expect to much. Shrugs I guess everyone wants their wbody to ride like a Lexus which isn't going to happen.

And yes you gotta give it some time to settle don't expect much when you just slap on new parts. Once you put on some miles then reevaluate.

My car has vogtlands with gr2s. They dropped it for sure from stockers. The rears ride a bit higher but its definitely lower than stock.

I didn't mean to imply I didn't like the springs. To the contrary, I really like the ride I have now very much. It feels like I'm driving a new car. The AGX struts are certainly stiffer than the stock, but that's what I wanted. I have the rear struts set to "1" (lowest) and the fronts at "2". Any stiffer than that and it would be to stiff. No bump steer, recovers instantly and combined with the GMPP sway bar, life is good. I can recommend every part I put in without hesitation. Doesn't mean this is the best combo, just that it's a good combo.
