• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

2015 lemons GTP

After talking to dezebe and getting some great advice from him. I'm going to build and enter and GTP for a 2015 Lemons race. Most likely the race that takes place at NJMP at thunderbolt. Car is a 1999 GTP. As per lemon rules, a roll cage, electrical cut off, and fire extinguisher will be mandatory. Still working on a theme for it so ideas on that would be great. We picked up the car from the side of the highway for $300. Broken, fried ecu, bad starter. That will be first to fix. Not sure if that will be under the exempt category or not. Expect a huge partout soon of all the bits we need to sell off the car.
Race mods:
Transmission cooler, oil cooler, PS fluid cooler, ZZP radiator upgrade, aluminum coolant elbows, remove heater core, remove AC and all related components and add AC delete kit.
Replace water pump, 180 thermostat, dual cooling fans, coolant flush,
Oil and filter change, trans fluid and filter change
Triple edge clutch pack with hardened 4th gear clutch
Stiffer front and rear sway bars, SS brake lines, custom brake ducting, new pads and rotors.
Remove air bags, lights, radio, and all unnecessary wiring
Rotate front engine mount
Pontiac aztek aluminum front crash bar
Impala 9C1 aluminum subframe
Headgasket, LIM, oil pan gasket, fuel filter, and any other seals/gaskets/filters to replace.
VS cam with valves and retainers, headers and exhaust, 3.4 MPS pulley, stock air box with K&N filter, custom ducting to all aux coolers, single racing seat with 5 point harness, fire extinguisher, master switch electrical cutoff, roll cage, tow hooks front and rear
Digital water temp gauge with 220 degree warning light, trans temp, oil temp, oil psi, volts, exhaust gas temp, boost. All in single pods on dashboard.
Custom driver hydration system.

thanks, I have nowhere near the skill or knowledge that debeze has so I"m eager to learn here. I think making the car reliable is going to be the biggest challenge. He said the trans is gonna be our weakest link.

Hey glad to see you decided to do it, how many miles on the car??? If there are any junk yards near you they will have a wealth of parts available, says your in Colorado but you want to do thunderhill?? Long drive isn't it

Most definitely. Does it have to be a stock trans?

JLGP

No not really, any trans you can make work will do, but remember what they cant see won't be judged but still as weak as our transmissions are, that would be my first mod. Having done this for the past 4 years in this series, it's always been our weakest link

I'm actually in Pennsylvania now. And what usually went first on the trans? Would you recommend a rebuild of it or what? We will have it retuned with HP then.

Upgrading to performance clutch packs, raising shift pressure via tuning or shift kit, and keeping trans temps in check with aux coolers is your first step, a total rebuild is what I would suggest but it will depend on your budget. Our next 2 upgrades will be a GMR Torsen diff and 1" GMR chain set

We at one point had issues coming up with a theme and finally decided on the Taxi but also really considered doing a Smokey & the Bandit theme, that was going to be caled the Trans Prix or Fire Prix, all black with the big bird on the hood and gold rims. Anything you do to the theme is exempt from the $500. Whatever your theme is make sure it's something you can live with, I keep my car street legal, registered and insured, drive it on the streets which get's all kind of stares and looks hahaha!!

haha, that's awesome. did you get my latest pm?

The gutting and part out has begun. Cost was $100 for the car. Bits already sold for $75. Going to acquire all the parts and a new subframe then pull the motor and trans and replace that all at once. Once it's reliable and not going to die the race mods will happen. Like a cage. Seat. And electrical cut off.
