I am going tonight to look at a 2002 40th Ann. GP GTP. 140k looks really clean. Guy is only asking 1500 for a down payment for a GXP. I am not stupid this seems pretty low to me he claims "there is nothing wrong mechanically" just has some minor cosmetic issues. I know that looks can be deceiving he has already told me the lims have been replaced with the updated aluminium gaskets. Is there anyway to verify this as in look and tell ? Also what else should I be looking for other that the obvious oil, trans fluid lvls and color and smell ect.

I know this sounds stupid but I have kinda jumped the gun on this one and want to cover my a$$

Thanks

You can look between the lim and head and should see the gasket. Just make sure to test drive it good make sure everything is nice and warm as to see trans slip or other stuff.

Ya you should be able to see the metal Lim gasket between the Lim and heads.. check the oil, trans fluid, look for broken sway bars/links, tire wear, see if there is play in the steering or tires, check for rattling in the SC, see if he has service receipts,...All that good stuff... just be smart about it all and take your time looking everything over.. you know what these cars/engines look like so just use your knowledge when looking. But it does sound like a good find.. hopefully not a too good to be true find lol

Remember to check the rear strut towers and also make sure you get it on the highway and make sure it shifts into 4th. I can't count the number of times i went to look at a car with a 4t65e trans and everything is "mechanically sound" according to the owner but then when you drive it the car is pushing 3K rpm @ 60mph or so.

Yup after 00ish whenever they put in the revised fender liners no more strut tower rot. Rocker rot sure all day every day.

I wouldn't go so far as to say NO more, but certainly very heavily reduced, if not eliminated on most of the '00 & up.

However, you touched on an important issue I haven't seen anyone else mention yet, and should be emphasized. Regardless of year, there is the very real possibility of rocker panel rust out. In fact, given how old these cars are now, if it's even remotely seen snow/salt, I'd COUNT on it having rusted rockers.

**** man you haven't posted in a long time but I would give it a vigorous test drive

That it has man been busy with my little boy.

Anyways thanks for all the great comments but dude backed out on me last minute. I had 1500 in hand headed on a 2hour journey to get her probably half way there he texts me and says he lost the title. I told him I'd still come take a look and drive it and he can request a new title or whatever. Then as we got closer I asked for his address and he told me his friend offered him 2k and is coming to get it. So I turned around and drove home PISSED OFF

Here's some pictures of the car

Ahhhh money

The hood and rims are plasti dipped (gay I know) I wouldve taken it off

Probably a good thing u didn't buy it. Wtf is up with the rear quarter panel? Or is it just me?

No, it definitely looks like it's had work done with some not quite matching paint. Plus look at the driver's door alignment (could just be because it's slightly opened), and it's hard to tell if it's just the reflection, but the front driver side fender looks dented.
