Front Passanger brake line

So I lost the front brakes driving home from work yesterday. After getting it up on the lift to see where the leak was, (a side note) I live in Maine and the winters are harsh on anything metal. To battle this I've been using Fluid
Film which has been incredible. With one exception. Where the brake line goes over the exhaust down pipe it has a heat shield covering it. This is exactly where it rusted out. About 1" into the shield on both sides was completely rusted. The only place I could not spray... grrrr...)

On to the question....

Where the break lines come up and attach to the master cylinder, all 4 of them have a flex tube running down. My question is does anyone have a diagram of which line goes to which wheel? I can see on the top different color circles.

It kinda helps if you tell us what you are driving. Sorry..but it really does.

I usually just follow the line and pop it out of the 4 holder clip down by the side of the trans, then find out which one it is going into the ABS. I don't remember the passenger side line ever having any flex in it. But there are some flex lines in that area. You can get around flex if you do a small coil.
 
you can follow the lines to where they go, or cut out the rusted line spot and replace it. use a flair tool, or compression fitting to re joint the lines.

I'm thinking I might be a bit confused. To the brake lines all run to the ABS first?
 


Okay, then that's the info I was looking for. Does anyone have a pic or list of which (color dot) goes to which wheel? I believe I have followed the correct line up but I would rather be safe then sorry. I'm a little AR when it comes to having as much info as possible.

I never thought of it in that way. I like the idea.

Sent a text to a GM tech buddy. He gets a lot of brake line work.
 
where did your line bust? and are you planning on changing the whole line? or just repairing it?

maybe post a few pics of what your working with.

like i said before the line are repairable by cutting out the bad section and replacing it. some times easier then changing the line.


the line that runs across the rear sub frame on my car blew out, i ran a new 4 foot line in its place, cost like 20 bucks to fix.

always cut the line in a area you can work in, so if you need to take more old line to get to a free area to work in thats always best.

Personally..I have stopped using unions almost all the time on brake jobs. I've found NiCopp line the whole way is my preferred way. It bends by hand and is amazing stuff. Pricey..but you'll never touch it again.
 
thats the line i used, nice and soft, bends like butter. compression fittings are not the best choice but are cheap and do work.

you know them coils in the rear frame bill? one side blew out, and the rest of the line was so rusted i was like f this line, just ran a new one across the back of the car. done deal.
 
I am planning on running a new line the whole way. I also plan to use NiCopper line. I have no interest in doing it again. This line anyway. I'm surprised that people aren't all over the color dots. :)
